The dark curtains should go over the lace ones. Darling Husband and I have dark over lace in our bedroom, and it looks so pretty during the day and keeps the room nice and dark when we’re sleeping – it’s perfect!

I like the lighter colors first, then the darker over them. That’s what we do here. Lace against the window, then the dark curtains covers everything up and leaves the room dark. If it’s the other way, the lace will cover up the dark curtain and look weird.

I agree with the PPs – lace by the window, dark over the top.

I have purple sheers closer to the window and chocolate brown blackout curtains over them. During the day, I can pull the blackout curtains back and leave the sheers to just filter the light and it’s really pretty.

I would put the lace closer to the window and dark drapes over them. Just pull back the dark drapes during the day so you can enjoy the lace curtains.

@iheartnerds:  You have “purple sheers”? really? Do you have a picture that I can drool over? LOL
