So I have a question about lace dress alterations that I haven’t been able to figure out from googling, and wanted to get some opinions before I ask my seamstress. So this is my dress (minus my head):
It has everything I wanted in a dress (all lace, buttons all down the back, sheath, sweetheart neckline, etc. etc.) except one thing: I love the sort of “raw,” unfinished look that some lace dresses have along the neckline, like these:
Is this something that you can change in alterations? I’m sorta imagining that you can maybe rip the seam between the lace and the underlying layer, and then maybe fold back/cut the underlying fabric like a half an inch, and resecure the lace to it? The top clearly is too big on me anyways, so I figure I have some material to spare.
Has anyone done it? If so, how’d it look? Not sure if all types of lace would be conducive to that frayed effect. Thanks for any help you guys might have!
