@rochelle.campbell.16:  What is your budget? Also, what area are you planning on going dress shopping in?

The reason I ask is that it is all based on perspective. For example, my dress is a gorgeous lace by Casablance and it was 725. To me, that is on the middle side, but to others, it might be CRAZY expensive.

A lot of brides have had luck getting the Chinese knock-offs.  Very reasonably priced, but do your homework and make sure you use a reputable company.

David’s Bridal is evil, but they stay in business because they have amazing prices.  If you don’t mind horrible customer service, they are a pretty good bet.

Please don’t buy a Chinese knock off. I’ll never post on any of the posts people make showing their dresses because I can’t say anything nice to them and there is no point in telling them the dress looks terrible, but the fact is I have NEVER seen a single post on here of a knock off that looked good. I don’t know what you mean by budget. To some girls, a low budget is $2000, for others, $300. Consider the bridal dresses on Ann Taylor’s website. I’d also suggest Casablanca. Then, there’s always David’s. If you’re willing to take some risks (as with the knock offs), perhaps the best route is to buy a used dress.

I got my lace wedding dress from david’s bridal for about $200. Lace is really popular and when I went for bm dresses they had a ton on sale.

Group USA has dresses for around $600.  And David’s certainly has affordable ones.  I’ve even seen some Macy’s that carry bridal gowns and I’m sure they’re not too pricey.

Check out preownedweddingdresses.com and oncewed.com. You can find some really great deals. What are you generally looking for (straps? white/ivory? what silhouette?) I could do a little looking for you.

Couldn’t resist – this is my knock off lace dress…. I paid $500 for it though!

I love my dress and it has been beautifully made… I tried on a heap of $2500 dresses that I loved and I would have bought my dress for that price – it is exactly what I was looking for…

Just make sure u do ur research…

I had a great experience at a Brides Against Breast Cancer gown event. Check their website to see if there will be something near where you live in coming months.

DB is having one of their big sales right now- you can probably find something there for well within your price range, you just won’t get the SYTTD experience with all the service and froufrou stuff that goes with it (but honestly, on a $300 budget, you knew that already).  And I personally don’t think DB is too bad- like any retail store, it depends on where you go and who you get.  All the consultants I had at DB were awesome people who really wanted to help me find a dress, or at least acted like it.

i just went thru the same thing…

came very close to buying a david’s dress, then i ended up falling in love with something and completely blew my budget.

i also looked into having one custom made…which came in around david’s prices. just have to do research until you find somoene reputable in your area.

honestly, i agree with the above…david’s is in business for a reason. they fill that lower price void.  i came very close to buying a knock-off, but the returns on those seemed so iffy.

i had a friend buy a knock-off on ebay a few years ago, and absolutely adore it. you never can tell!!!

also, a tip. i ordered a david’s dress online…you have 14 days to ship it back, and they have styles not in the stores…just a thought. you end up paying for shipping tho.

I found my lace dress at David’s Bridal for $450 but ended up purchasing in from a vendor on wedding bee.  It was new with tags and I paid about $300.  PM me if you’d like more info.  Also, I plan to sell my dress after our Ocober wedding.
