- Wedding: August 2012
So I’m running out of time to get my dress for my August 2012 (eeep!!!) wedding. After hunting for a lace dress for months I finally found a dress I really like and would be more than happy getting. Now for the issue: Purchasing a new dress in my size is now out of the question since the fastest rush order would place it coming in a month after my wedding. No problem to me, I moved on to my options.
Option 1: Purchase the sample I tried on for $1100 before tax (retail is $1800) which is at least a good two to three sizes too big on me and pay for the alterations to take in the dress, hem it up a few inches (at least 3 inches) and then add a bustle.
Option 2: Purchase the gown’s sister (same skirt shape/fit and same lace material) which is a v-neck dress with a keyhole back from another bride (almost my same dress size and height and she put a beautiful bustle on it) for somewhere between $850-950 and alter the v-neck to be a strapless (which I’m not definitely sure could be done). Wearing it as a v-neck is basically out of the question for me as I think the straps would be too overpowering on me.
I’m honestly so torn! I want to keep my cost down since my parents are paying for basically everything (knife-eyes at Future Mother-In-Law and FFIL). My question is, which is the better option? I am an over-analyzer and have got to be completely comfortable with a decision before I can commit. Also, for those fellow Jim Hjelm/lace dress brides: how much were your alterations? I’ve read that some cost as much as $400 (!!!) which would bring the store sample to $1500 (!!!) vs the maybe $35-50 to turn the v-neck dress into a strapless.
Thank you ladies!!!!!!
