I’m a Jim Hjlem blush bride (1104) and I was quoted $400 too but chose to get it done somewhere else – that being said all I needed was the length and sleeves shortened.

My seamstress did a great job – do you have someone you’ve used before? Maybe ‘test’ out a seamstress by doing some alterations on something else?

It may be hard to go strapless since you may lose the support/structure to keep it up. What dress are you looking at?

That being said I LOVED my Jim Hjelm dress and sure you will too!

I was beyond lucky – she added a bustle, adjusted the length and sleeve and charged me $40!!

Which dresses are you looking at?

I’d be curious to see pics but dresses with straps in general don’t have as much internal structure as a strapless dress. I think altering to strapless (especially with a keyhole back) is very risky
