Fiance and I are starting new jobs and are looking to move closer to our school and offices so we started perusing the internet and found our way to Craigslist. We found a house that was renting relatively inexpensive and in my due diligence, I started googling the address to make sure the property was real, pulled up the Street View and checked the Zillow ads. The house is real, it is vacant, it is for sale with the option to rent. Good start, right? WRONG!
I found two different Craigslist ads for the house. One was from the actual realtor who is taking care of the selling/renting of the property and one was a “Nigerian missionary”. The ad we resonded to was for less than half what it was renting for. Here’s the response email for kicks–I’m sure this kind landlord won’t mind me publishing it on a searchable website.
The xxxx Street, P Is a 2 br 1 ba Single-Family Home. Which I occupied before leaving for Nigeria. We left on a self Mission following God’s Call to Preach the Word and Let people of all Nations Hear About Him. We are willing to work on any flexible plan you may have on your term of renting,Long or short term or month by month.I had a Realtor company help me get a tenant, but they were handling things too professionally and were extorting the tenants, so i took the job of their hands and tried doing this my self, but couldn’t find any tenant while I was still in the state as at last week. so as a matter of urgency for my travel, I do not want my home to be misused in my absence, I decided to take the keys and documents along with me.
