I opened the cup to a C and raised the neckline 1 inch. I think it’s better to have the dress be slightly too large so you can alter to your body as opposed to not having enough material.

@BeeG35:  What dress did you buy?

@mstellah: I see that you said that you opened the cup…how much more did this cost you from the designer? I was considering doing this when I bought my dress so that I could get the depth that I needed in the chest area

Your poll choices are a bit skewed because I ordered my measured size, but my measured chest size is about 2 sizes larger than my measured waist size.  If I had no boobs, I would probably have been a bridal 14.  The store ordered me a size 18 with a D-cup pattern change.  They’ve have to take in the waist a bit, but it looks great with alterations.  Hope that helps.

    i am 34dd

i suppose it depends on the dress. my dress was a corest back with boning … i ended up not needing cups or even a bra – its awesome. I didnt need to alter anything about the dress – and it was a low sweetheat neckline.

@BeeG35:  Here’s my dress during my last fitting.  They are taking in a bit on the side of the chest, so that will help it to fit closer to my chest.  I don’t think its too low.

They based my order on my chest measurements, which worked out.  I don’t understand why you would need to order more room for your chest unless you’re wanting to convert a corset bodice to a zipper or something.  I would think ordering based on your measured chest size would be good, but I’m not a seamstress so maybe they’re right (?).  Ask them if you can still add an inch after the dress comes in- that way you would be able to try it on and decide later.

@BeeG35:  They ordered you a size smaller than the sample?  Eek, I can see why you’re worried!  Can you ask them to cancel and order a different size?  That doesn’t make any sense…they should order whatever size your largest measurement (so bust for you) corresponds to.

@bellaluna290:  it did not cost anything extra to customize the bust/neckline.

I ended up having to rule out a lot of dresses because of the effect my chest had on the dress. I eventually found one that looked good with the design the dress already had and had to order at least two sizes bigger than my next measurement to accommodate the girls. I’m confident that it will look good the way it is without me needing to change anything.
