@jaguar:Do you buy the OPKs in bulk online? I wonder if brand would make a difference…(about the getting a positive thing lol). I think maybe I’ll just get a monitor this month.

@Running Elley: I get the dip strips. We can’t afford the real deal ones, because I use LOADS of them (from CD8 until I see something) to be sure I don’t miss an early O. (Ha! Unlikely! Whatevs.)

I’ve always wondered whether a fancy expensive one would help… but we just can’t justify the expense when I’m so sporadic with ovulating. (Also, I’m prepping myself for the outrageous costs involved in our RE visits next month. Gulp.)

@jaguar:Yepp I agree. I bought expensive ones last month but my desire to POAS is too strong for us to be able to afford those every month. I’d rather buy a billion for cheap and do it every day haha. I’m thinking if we “invest” in a monitor it’ll save us more money over time. They’re pretty expensive right away though! And gulp is right…we’re obviously not close to having to think about that yet but I stalk basically all of the TTC threads and I’ve read a bunch of bees post about how expensive the RE costs are and it makes me think maybe we should start saving just in case…it’s disgusting!

@Running Elley: My thing is… it’s not just the monitor you’re paying for – it’s also the strips to go with it, and they aren’t cheap either.

So the el cheapos will do for me. They come with those pregger tests too, but if I ever get the faintest of lines on those, I’ll run out & buy digitable ones to confirm.

I got a rough idea of costings from the specialist’s secretary – basically our first appointment (BEFORE TESTING!) is $230 Aussie dollars, and we get back around $60 of this through medical rebates. The rest is out of pocket. It’ll be the same for any testing that gets done, too. It’s hard – but I’m trying to think of it as the beginning of an answer though, rather just as random diagnostic tests. Still…. all of this gets frustrating when you’re around people who can get pregnant by blinking. I have a good friend (who I’m lunching with today, actually) who has two kids from a previous marriage, got divorced, found herself a hot new fling… and is now unexpectedly pregnant …. WITH TWINS. What? (Lucky I love her.)

@jaguar:Ugh I hadn’t put a ton of research into the monitor yet, didn’t know you have to buy strips too. Darn. It will be the cheapies for us too then! What really stinks is last week I was spending so much money on ridiculous HPTs that I bought 50 wandfo ones on Amazon. I could’ve bought OPKs at the same time and paid shipping once but I was convinced I wouldn’t need them again. Boo. Now I’ll be paying for shipping twice but c’est la vie.

Ahhhhhh that’s crazy! I just keep telling myself that the end result (aka adorable baby) will be worth everything and so so much more. But it’s hard not to worry about everything else because that’s the part that’s very real right now. I hope it doesn’t take too much to get you guys on the right track ๐Ÿ™‚ And I totally feel you on the sneezing and getting pregnant friends. I’m going to a bridal shower of a cousin who broke up with her fiance last December and announced that she was pregnant with a new boyfriend’s baby in January. So I’m totally with you! Hopefully it’ll be us sooner than later!

@Running Elley: Some of the Aussie sellers on ebay/amazon have free shipping, so I don’t feel quite so bad about buying them. ๐Ÿ˜€ I have a little stockpile of wandfo HPT’s sitting there that I’ve not really made use of yet!!

Hi ladies just checking in, nothing going on over here just waiting to O and trying to BD every other day and then I will try to BD 3 days in a row once I get a positive OPK.  But I just ordered the Wandfo HPT’s bc I was sick of wasting money on the name brand ones just to be disappointed and throwing them away.  My question (sorry if it’s silly) is why do you have to pee in a cup instead of actually peeing on the strip, does it really make a difference?

@LoveliestLove:  Oh great, that means I shouldn’t order any.  I was going to order some and have them sent to my sister who is coming over to visit me in a few weeks.  Sadly, I struggle with swallowing anything larger than an advil so guess that rules it out for me.   I really need to grow up and learn how to swallow normal sized pills….especially as nothing comes in gummies or chewables over here!  Argh…  Thanks for the heads up!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah, ladies, I’m going crazy! My birth control implant comes out Monday and then we will officially be TTCing. I know we will most likely have to wait a couple of months for a BFP but I am so excited I can’t even handle it!

And since we’re keeping it a secret from most of our friends & family you weddingbee ladies are the only ones I can squeal too!

I don’t know how I’m going to stay quiet for several months. I hope to O sooner than later!

@ms sweets: I pee in a cup because I KNOW how much and for how long the strip is immersed, if you know what I mean. Also, I suck at literally peeing on sticks.

@LoveliestLove: Mine are pretty massive too. And they SMELL. That awful manky vitamin smell. Blargh.

@Ree723: They do sell them here, if you were wondering – I order them online & get them shipped. (I’ve never seen them in a store here yet.. must not be super common?)
