@happyhappyhappyyy I love your ring!  So unique.  Congrats!  Hopefully I’ll be sporting an asscher of my own sometime soon 🙂

Hi ladies, I’m considering putting my 1 ct asscher in a setting kind of like this (except with a thinner platinum band).  What do you think?  I like how the “compass” style setting doesn’t cover the lovely angles of the asscher, and makes it look more circular than square. but do you think it looks odd?

lizzy917:  i totally love the way this is set. I have an assher and i regret having the prongs on the corners because you cant see the angled corners 🙁

tessie89:  Thank you!  Tough decisions… My concern is that the exposed corners are more prone to damage. I think asschers look lovely with the corner prongs as well, and much safer 🙂

lizzy917:  This is crazy! I was going through the same dilemma! I have a 1ct asscher in a white gold setting, it was set in a prong setting on all 4 corners of the diamond, and you couldn’t see the beautiful clipped corners. I lost my stone when a prong popped loose. Miraculously I found my stone, and after speaking with my jeweler, we decided to do a compass (NSEW) setting for my asscher. It allowed for two of the prongs to be sautered to the cathedral setting of my ring – which made it MUCH safer. Here are some before and after pictures of my ring. I LOVE the setting. Its rounded the stone a bit, allowed the corners to  be seen and definitely adds to the vintage feel of the stone that I love so much. Good luck!!

mollylotano:  Oh my gosh, I love your ring!! My jeweler is making a similar NSEW setting, and I’ll be sure to share pics once it arrives.  I think the prongs will be a little thicker than yours, without a cathedral… but there will be a thin basket under the table to keep it secure.  I’m nervous to see how it turns out! Thank you so much for sharing, and congratulations! 🙂

mollylotano:  I finally got my ring… couldn’t wait to snap a pic, took this at a red light after leaving the jeweler!  The prongs are a bit wider than I imagined… but I suppose the extra security will be good for a clumsy gal like me 🙂
