I need some makeup advice! I normally a semi-cheap drugstore brand like Almay or Covergirl, but lately I’ve been having a really hard time finding something that looks good on my skin. I have crazy fair skin and sometimes even the lightest shades of foundation look too dark and cakey on my face, and I barely use enough to cover my face! I’ve tried mixing the foundation with lotions or sunscreen because I’ve read that will help lighten it. However, then the mixture is too light and it doesn’t do the job of evening out my skin tone.
I’ve lately been contemplating trying out the bare minerals brand, but I hear mixed reviews.
That leads me to…what kind of foundation or base do you bees wear? Why do you like it? Do you spend a lot of money on foundation?
Any thoughts would be great!

I use Mary Kay’s mineral powder and I love it! Sometimes I’ll use a liquid base if I want to get really dressy but I love the mineral powder because it’s quick, easy, looks great, and doesn’t look to heavy. It’s not cheap but it lasts for a loooooong time!

I tired Bare Minerals, but I didn’t think it covered enough. I use Revlon, and love it. If they ever discontinued it or changed it, I would die.

I use Bobbi Brown. I used to get the drug store stuff but had trouble knowing what to use also. The Bobbi Brown consultants are SO good about doing your makeup and showing you what works and how to use it! They have a great tinted moisterizer that I love!

I used Bare Minerals back in the day, but I have dry skin and it wasn’t good for my skin type. I switched to Estee Lauder double wear a year ago and love it.

I’m a huge fan of MAC Studiofix (in the compact, not the liquid). For long days, being outside, special events, etc I wear Smashbox Photo Finish primer underneath. I’m not a huge fan of the MAC concealer though, I use a click pen from Clinique.

I love L’Oreal True Match foundation. I had a makeup artist use it on my 5 years ago and I immediately went out and purchased it. Very light weight.

I use Guerlain Lingerie foundation and it was like $40…steep but it was the only foundation I ever found that matched my skin perfectly. I always used to use covergirl or almay and no matter what I couldn’t get it to look flawless. I love bare minerals too and plan to buy their veil makeup to go over the foundation.

I used bare minerals and liked it okay. I recently switched to Neutrogena healthy skin liquid foundation and I REALLY like it. It’s my favorite. Great coverage, good price, and I really feel like my skin looks better if I’ve been wearing it. I have oily skin though, so it may depend on your skin type!

usually bare minerals isn’t suggested for photographs so I would stay away from that. Good for everyday but not on your most photographed day. I use Makeup forever HD and I really like it. Smashbox foundation is really good too and made for taking photographs. MAC’s foundation is also made for photographs but it causes some people to break out.

i started using makeup forever’s hd liquid make up right before my wedding (i got a make over at sephora to check out products because i couldn’t get my make up trial until the week before the wedding and wanted to make sure i had options…), and i LOVE it. i have really dry skin, and it’s really liquidy so looks totally natural and keeps me moisturized. i used to use clinique’s super moisture foundation, but the make up forever kind looks so much more natural on me

@lilybee: hah! i just did the opposite and switched from neutragena healthy skin to bare minerals. :] the neutragena was making me really oily and blotchy by the end of the workday and i don’t even have oily skin! my skin is pretty clear in general so i decided to give bare minerals a try (i’ve only used liquid in the past) and i really like it. it covers nicely (like i said, i don’t need to cover, just to even and FH doesn’t like when i wear a lot of makeup for some reason) and when i get home from work and take a peek in the mirror i’m still like “daaaaamn! lookin’ good!” haha. so yeah, it just depends! i think i’m going to try laura mercier’s mineral powder next (what i had intended on getting in the first place) because i hear it pairs well with the Bridesmaid or Best Man brushes.

I used Bare Minerals for awhile and loved it. Then…my skin started getting a little older, a bit more hormonal….so I switched to Tarte. I have been happy with Tarte, it has sunscreen, costs about $35 but will last me about six months or so.

I use Jane Irdale powder foundation, it’s awesome. It’s rather pricey, but in my opinion you tend get what you pay for in some cosmetics, foundation being one of them. I’ve tried everything and this one is definitely the best so far.
I also wear DHC primer underneath. They’ve also got an awesome skincare line.

Thanks for your thoughts, ladies! Still not sure if I want to try bare minerals just because of all the mixed reviews, and its kind of spendy. We’ll see though!!
