AubreyMarie:  I’ve gotten #5 from my mom and my best friend, and I let them try it on because, why not? I guess when I first got engaged I got asked a few more questions, but everyone knows us, so they know what Darling Husband does for a living. I also got #2 before, and I just answer with the center is around 1 ct. For the most part no one really cares about my ring… sometimes I’ll get compliments on it, but I just say “thank you” and move on.

I have a 1 ct moissy and no one asks questions because I kept it in a normal (read: believable) size range and my setting looks very high quality (and it is!).

I first told my mom I was planning on moissy and she thought we were “settling.” So when I got my ring, I let her think it was a diamond for the first few months. She loved it so much and would try it on all the time. Finally one night I broke the news to her. She was stunned that she was unable to tell the difference, and once I (again) explained why we got it (lab made (so science!) ethical, money saving, lower environmental impact, etc.) she commended me on my decision. And apologized for being judgemental in the beginning.

I’m in grad school and it’s also been a topic of conversation that I have with others getting engaged. I always try to let them know about the option, as I was let on by a different grad student. Mostly, people get excited about it and want to know more.

I would be afraid to let someone try on my ring. As irrational as it may seems, I’d worry they would take off with it. Lol

Who asks to try on someones ring? The only person I would ever let try on my ring is maybe my sisters.

People say very nice things about it, but I’ve never gotten a single one of these questions.

Ambi D:  I’m 28 so most of my friends are engagement age and having the talks, going ring shopping with their SOs, etc. I actually get asked a lot by my friends. When we had our engagement party I actually had a group of girlfriends standing around me in a circle passing it around and waiting for their turn to try it on, lol. I’m only the second in my group of friends to get married, so I thought it was really cute. I think they want to see how it looks on their hand, if they’d like a halo, white gold versus yellow gold, etc. My mom also likes to try it on for fun because she loves jewelry like me.

sunshineno5:  I’ve just stalked your ring on here and it is stunning! I can’t believe your family and friends were so po-faced about it. Even when I am a bit envious of people’s things, I can be excited for them. I love to see beautiful things, even if they aren’t mine.

AubreyMarie:  My moissanite is a little over a carat but I have gotten the real comment. I just say it’s a moissanite which is a created diamond simulant but stronger than cz. They’re pretty common now and I can tell myself so I figure may as well be honest. We’re saving for a real diamond in the same size.  A friend wanted to try my ring on, I don’t see any problem with that.

I’ve had my ring for a few days only, my stone is only a .75ct moissy, but it has a round double halo, so it does shine like crazy.. I do notice how some people stare a lot at it, but no one has asked any of the questions, and majority of people who know me, know that FI’s job can justify the size of the stone if it were a real diamond, but so far, they just compliment how beautiful it looks and yeah, some of them say like: ohh he really really loves you! Some of his coworkers asked him how much was it and how did he choose it, but Fiance just tells them it’s a custom made ring, and they don’t ask anything else.

FutureDrAtkins:     I remember you said because of the staining issue you’ve decided to save for a real diamond. Have you changed your mind?

SoonMrsCrocker2:  haha I was just hitting reply to your comment to say that we’re saving up for a diamond too! And wanted to let the OP know that moissy can develop stains if she’s not aware. I was so 100% team moissy and thought I did all my research before buying, and I’m still not completely satisified with it. So yes, we are still eventually going to replace it with a diamond OEC.

AubreyMarie:  It’s some kind of organic surface film. Silver polish works, but mine always comes back eventually.
