I like light wood. I am biased b/c I have light wood in my family room. I don’t think it looks rustic at all though. I think it’s a good contrast to all the dark furniture in the room. I have a chocolate leather sectional. I have posted a pic before, but I will again to give you and idea of how the light wood looks.

hmm..it DOES have a rustic look but I kind of like that look b/c it’s very forgiving of scratches and dings. I also like the darker one too so I see why you are having such a hard decision.

I think I still prefer the lighter though…but you can’t go wrong with either one.

I love love love dark wood.  My mom had it in her entire home, even on the stairs and the top floor which is unusual.  But she was CONSTANTLY cleaning the floor.  It was only my sister, mom and I who lived there, with no pets, but you could see the footprints that were tracked around the entire house.

I have a medium colour wood in my home now, and I’m glad it’s not dark.  Our house gets so dusty (construction around and such) so I’d be cleaning the floors every day.  At least I can get away with it for a few days.

    Just some food for thought!

I was going to advise you against the light wood because we have light and absolutely everything shows up. But our’s are similar to Jamaicabride’s in color. I think the dark is beautiful but the light does look very forgiving and has a rustic look. I would personally go with dark unless you are really wanting that rustic country feel. I think you will find that wood floors need a lot of cleaning regardless of color if you have pets or kids. I have a yellow lab and a toddler and my floors do not stay clean even one day, lol.

With your decor, I can see the more rustic floor fitting well with the overall look. But in terms of mass appeal (if you were to look at selling in the future) I would go with your darker shade.

Your dark shade really isn’t that dark, so you won’t have the problems we have – we have VERY dark floors and like another poster added, we have to clean them ALL THE TIME, they are a pain! They show all our footprints, everything!

I think the darker looks better with your paint color. We have something very similar in our condo (similar color walls as well) and it works. I like it because there are some variances in shades so it ties in all of our furniture (we have dark wood media stand/table and our kitchen cabinents are light).

I love the darker color! I think it will look great with your wall color if you decide to keep the walls the light beige!

Personally I am a fan of light wood. Light colors always open up a room while dark colors close up a room.

I wouldn’t base your floor choice off your wall colors! It’s ONLY paint!

If you have dark furniture, go with the lighter floors, and vice versa. If things blend in too much, it isn’t very pleasing visually.
