I have the 2nd one and I LOVE it.

I’d say it runs true to their size chart. I wear a size 10/12 usually and have the Medium coat which fits great.

I love that it has both a zipper and snaps to really block the wind from whistling through the zipper area which always seems to be a weak point on coats.

I also really like the length and it is a very warm coat. My Darling Husband bought it for me for the cold NYC winters and it definitely worked for those.

The hood is detachable too, which is always nice.

@SarahSmilesDec28: Yup! I wore it to work almost every day in the winter and I worked at a “business formal” company so fitting over formal work attire was a must.

Also, small random note, but the pockets are made of fleece so they are SUPER soft and warm.

I have the rich brown color. It’s actually a really pretty color and they seem to have it in Medium.

i don’t have a down coat from lands end but i do have a down vest and my experience is that they run a touch big…my vest is a M and i wear it over a chenille fleece, and usually i wear a L for most things (except unisex tshirts).  i have two down coats…one for really REALLY cold weather from LL bean, and they DEFINITELY run big…i got a L going by my measurements and i should have gotten a M.  that thing fit me still when i was pregnant, lol.  the other is from the company store, and i don’t think they have coats in their catalog or online any more, just in their outlet store in la crosse.  i love that coat though…it’s my every day/all the time winter coat.

you can’t go wrong with down, for where you’re going.  check the temperature rating on whatever you buy though, just to be sure.

ETA: my company store coat is the same shade as that “bright teal” (they called it peacock blue), and it’s really not that bright…it’s very pretty in person.  you should see my LL bean coat…it’s the same length as the chalet coat and like pea green, lol.  THAT is bright!
