Ugh, why does everything happen at once?! Last night at work (I’m a waitress), I knocked over a huge tray of drinks onto myself… with my phone in my pocket. I dried it off as best as I could and have been sticking it in a bowl of rice which is supposed to draw out moisture. This morning it works but Fiance says my voice sounds intermittently robotic and garbled, and the screen is kind of foggy with moisture. Anyone have any phone saving tips?
Also, there’s got to be some Mac experts around here! My 3 year old Macbook has been through a lot, I’m afraid – dropped multiple times, etc. – but nothing traumatic has happened to it recently. But just yesterday it started emitting a horrible burning smell and turning off randomly. I turned it back on like 6 times before it stayed on. I immediately backed up all my files and I’m going to try to take it in to get looked at soon, but I’m really scared of what it could be – I can’t afford an expensive repair!
Whew, well, I feel a little better telling you all about this! Hopefully some of you smart ladies have some insight!

No one has any experience with these things? 🙁

Eeek Sorry! That sucks!
I have gotten my phone wet before but it wasn’t quite the same. I sent mine through an entire wash cycle! Needless to say, it didn’t make it. I would turn it off and let it dry out even more if you can. I’ve heard that turning it on before it’s fully try can do even more harm.
As for the laptop.. I don’t know! I hope you can figure it out though, I know computers are expensive to replace.

I have gotten cell phones wet before and ultimately they have never survived the incident. I dried one out in the sun once, which seemed to help at first. The screen had had moisture on it—but after it dried, like half the LEDs in the screen quit working. It still made calls, but I couldn’t see anything I was doing, so I had to get a new phone :(. I hope your computer and phone get better!

I would suggest getting all those numbers off of your phone in case it suddenly dies. My phone just up and died one day, and it was a royal pain in the butt to get everyone’s phone number again. Good luck with everything!

I’m no help with the phone, but definitely bring your computer to the apple store, it may just be the fan, and they can look up the serial number to see if it is still under warranty and replace it.

Hey everyone, thanks for your advice! My phone is working, thank goodness! The screen is kind of warped but I think it is going to make it.
As for my laptop – I did take it in and they said it is probably the Heat Sync, though they can’t know for sure without running diagnostics which I would have to pay for since I am not under warranty. Fixing the Heat Sync would cost more than my computer is worth, according to the guy I talked to, so he basically said just keep it turned off a lot to cool it down, back up my files often and know that I will need a new computer soon 🙁
