I was going to suggest a MacBook.  Completely worth the money.  But other than that, look into Dells.  Mine lasted me years.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Honestly, I think the best laptop is a macbook. I used to have a Dell Inspiron and it was absolutely horrible. I got a macbook a year after I got the Inspiron, it was only about 200 dollars more, and I never looked back. Seriously, I have had the mac for a year now and have had absolutely no problems with it. I think I’m in love with it actually (sorry bf!). It works like a dream and, the icing on the cake, it is very aesthetically pleasing ๐Ÿ™‚

I know you said you don’t work well with macs, but maybe that’s just because you need to get used to it? It was hard for me to switch to a mac as well, I needed to teach myself how to use it, but once you get the hang of it it’s awesome! And now you can get microsoft office on it as well, so you don’t have to worry about document compatibility. I don’t know if your problems were with mac computers or with ipods, but if you would consider the macbook, it’s totally worth it ๐Ÿ™‚

And Apple didn’t pay me to toot their horn, I just love them so much ๐Ÿ˜›

@Knubbsy-Wubbsy: There are Acer Aspire One’s that do have 2GB of memory.  I think it’s also harder to upgrade on the solid state harddrives like mine.  If you have one that doesn’t like

@hedgeknits: then you’ll be great!

I looked into the EeePC too before buying mine.  A friend had one and I really liked it.  I think Acer has a bit more reputation behind it than Asus, but it’s a good buy.  I personally LOVE netbooks!  I love how they’re small and compact, but can do everything that a bigger laptop can do.

I would suggest finding a store where you can play around on them before buying one.  My keyboard took a bit of getting used to because it’s smaller and more compact, so you just have to get used to it.

@Knubbsy-Wubbsy: hmm, it was the one that came out in 2007 in a ton of different colors, i’m not sure of the model to be honest
