I don’t think so, we are going to be having a large wedding party too.
We have friends we grew up with our whole lives and it’s so hard to choose between them, nor would we want to.  Just ignore those people. 🙂

i think it’s more common these days, especially in the US and Mexico.  To me, anything over 6 bridesmaids is large and not necessarily the norm, but that in no way means it’s bad.

You should have AS MANY BM/GM as you have close friends and relatives, if that’s 1 or 2 that’s perfectly fine and if thats 14 then you are a much friendlier person than me, but that’s nothing to feel bad about =D

I personally liked the fact that I only had three, but I’ve been to weddings where they had as many as ten bridesmaids. Blow off people’s comments and do what you want. 🙂

I have 6 and I’ve never been to a wedding with more than 4, and everyone told me I was crazy. I think it’s partly regional too.

I’m so glad I have my 6 girls though, they get along great (even though they didn’t all know each other before) and have been extremely supportive. I can’t imagine not having even 1 of them stand up with me at my wedding 🙂

We are having 6 groomsmen and 6 bridesmaids and surprisingly no one has commented on how large it is. I felt it was kind of comically large at first, but I’ve lived in my county my whole life and have a LOT of girlfriends. In fact, I had 8 girls who should have been bridesmaids, but I felt that was just WAY too many for our 100 guest wedding. So, I ended up hurting a couple girlfriends. If I could do it over, I would have just included everyone. I say, however many people you think should be up there, should. Forget what everyone else says. It’s YOUR wedding!

I think large bridal parties are beginning to become more popular. We have a large party because we just couldn’t pick between our friends and siblings. My FI’s siblings have all had large parties as well. Right now we have 9 guys and 8 girls.

I agree with what everyone else has said so far. It’s your wedding so do what you want and ignore all of those comments.

The average size of bridal parties varies by geographical area and even over time.  There have been times where large bridal parties were in vogue and times when they were out.  Times when half a dozen BMs and half a dozen GMs were average other times excessive.  Go with whatever feels right to you.

I think a lot of people do smaller because of the costs of flowers, etc…   I found 3 hard enough to manage!

we are having 5 and 5 I just went to a wedidng that had 9 and 9. Its not that uncommon. I think that you should have whoever up there with you that you want, no matter how many people there is.

Tell those folks “We are lucky to have 13 amazing people who we love and who love us so much that they are going to stand up for us!”

@tinyfriel: we have 6 on each side and 3 flower girls. I don’t think that’s big. I think anything over 10 on each side is large!

My cousin just had a wedding with 20+ bridal party members. So i guess its not too uncommon. We are going to have 8 all together including ring bearer and flower girl.
