I have size 8 fingers and thought one carat looked too small for me. I ended up going with a yellow sapphire (instead of yellow diamond) and my stone is 8.5x 6.5…it was supposed to be 9×7 but we upgraded quality at the last minute. Since I knew I wanted a colored stone with a halo, the size was pretty perfect. At one point I wasn’t sure if I went too big but I love it!

@GiantJelly:  I would definitely get the 9 mm if it were me. Well, actually, I personally might even go larger than that to get the coverage I like to see on my finger.

Unlike what a bee said earlier in the thread, the stone you have right now will look smaller once it is set. The holder you have it in holds the stone up very high and your stone is not going to be held up this high in whatever setting you pit it in. The fact is that if a stone is set higher, it will appear larger. Think about it in terms of distance–your friend Bob would look taller if he were a foot away from you than if he were 30 feet away from you.

@GiantJelly:  I think your original stone looked perfect, and that’s how I voted in your poll as well!

@GiantJelly:  I like the first one way more. This will look huge when it’s actually set. Are you planning on trying to pass it off as a diamond? I only ask because either size you choose will be expensive if a diamond was used.

Either way, I like the first size best on you!

@GiantJelly:  I think it looks great, perfectly proportional for your hands. 🙂

@GiantJelly:  I just saw the 3ct photo – I think it looks too big. The original stone is perfect.
