Hello Bees! After 9 year together my boyfriend and I are finally ring shopping and I have to make a decision between a more elaborate setting or a larger diamond (assuming no future upgrades). I am a ring size 4.5 and kind of petite at 5’1. Here are the options…
Option 1:
1ct diamond (6.4mm) with this setting

OR
Option 2:
1.3 ct diamond (7mm) with this setting

So which do you think is best?

I like two better, not because of diamond.

There isn’t a huge difference between a 1.00 and a 1.3. If you really love the elaborate setting, I’d go for it.

To me it would be an easy decision since I love and prefer classic solitaires. They are understated, timeless and put the focus on the center stone. And you can always reset in the future.

I vote for the simple one with the larger diamond!

I voted for the second one, only because I like the simple band.

I have been with mine for nine years as well. I was originally planning on getting a 1 to 1.5 carat diamond and to put quite a lot of money into the setting.
Then we found a beautiful 2.5 OEC ring at a nice price. Of course, that means putting off the gorgeous setting a while, but I’m really glad we did it this way. Fiancee also wants to change the setting someday, so eventually I’ll have the best of both worlds!

Have you try them on? You may find not that much difference in size when you try both of them on your finger. 1.3ct is not that much bigger than 1ct unless the 1.3ct stone you are looking is shallow with bigger table rate. Bigger table may give you bigger look but it may not sparkle as much. I highly recommend you to go to a jewlery store and try both 1ct and 1.3ct rings. If a 1.3ct definatly look bigger than 1ct and also sparkles well, I would choose the 1.3ct. Otherwise, I’d go with beautiful setting.

I prefer the second one, but not because of the larger stone. Unsolicited opinion : The first one sits too high, IMO. It is a beautiful ring, however, and I’m sure either will be great!

The second one is classic and you can pair it with a blingy band:-)

I like the first setting, but I also really don’t like solitaires. I think you can’t go wrong with either one, but I do think 1 ct will be plenty big enough enough for your ring size.

Thank you ladies for all of your opinions. Just to add, there is about a 20% face up difference bewteen the two diamond choices. So the size difference would be noticeable.
