Laser hair removal has become a lot more affordable in recent years,, so I wouldn’t discount the salon because it seems “cheap”.  I have had my underarms done.. paid $100 for 5 sessions.  I’ve had 4 so far, over the course of a year and I can definitely see a significant reduction in hair.   It stings a bit but I would recommend it!!

@leembee: I’m so jealous. I’ve had 5 sessions so far and they just keep coming back!

@shaunna: are you doing underarms as well?  i’ve heard that some skin/hair type combos don’t respond well to laser (but apparently they can use a different laser?)

I’ve been doing it for about a year now. It hurts a lot, depending on the area, but totally worth it! No more shaving my bikini line, yay!

I go to American laser, not super thrilled with them, they are “o.k.” I might try ideal image next time since I have hear a lot about them

Wow! 100 for 5 sessions?! I had no idea it was that cheap!!! I thought it was in the 1,000’s. I might start to highly consider it now.

How long do you have to wait between each session??

Mine was a promotion $20 per session and you could buy as many as you wanted.  I too wasn’t sure so I just bought 5.   Usually you wait 5-6 weeks but I go every 2-3 months b/c I feel like the hair hasn’t had a chance to grow back if I go any sooner.

@leembee: I’m doing underarms and bikini line. To be honest, only the first treatment I had was a proper laser treatment, but it was expensive. So I decided to go somewhere else where they did photothermolysis instead – I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of that. Fast forward to 4 treatments and tons of money later, and nothing has changed. The first time with the laser, the hair didn’t grow out for over a month; with photothermolysis it grows back in a week! So now I’m thinking of going back to laser.

@shaunna:  I’ve never heard of photothermolysis, but sounds like it doesn’t work!! 🙁

Hopefully you can find some deals on these groupon type websites in your area as well!!

I got a few groupons for about $100 for 6 sessions.  The place had mediocre ratings, but it seemed legitimate and safe.  Everyone doing the treatments was a nurse, and everything was sanitary.  I say if you can find any reviews vouching for at least that, go for it.  You’ll be very happy with the results.

My mom paid $330 for her face, it is unlimited sessions.  They treat until all hair is gone guarenteed.  She had excellent results in 5 sessions.

I live in Oklahoma and got a similar deal with 6 treatments for $100.  At the 5th treatment their machine broke and they had a substitute machine but other than that I had really good results.  It’s been about 2 months since my last treatment and I have a little hair left on my underarms but it’s a lot less and the hair is very fine and light.  I spent tons on treatments years ago (without any results) but the technology is so much better these days.

I am on my fourth treatment and I can see results already. I am doing my underarms and bikini zone. It is more noticeable on my bikini area. I have very light skin and blondish brown hair, they were not sure how much the laser would help, but I definitely see a difference. So much better than waxing! It stings a little but is gone within seconds.

OMG those prices are ridiculously cheap!!! Its still pretty expensive out here in the DC area. Anyway it depends on what youre getting done. If the hair is THICK and DARK,,,the results are almost guaranteed. I have no more underarm hair!!! and almost no bikini hair!!! I did get touch up sessions and the results were better for my underarms than my bikini area. on the other hand my upper lip hair is resilient because it is so fine and after 13 sessions I still have a few hairs here and there. Be very careful about the location if theyre not careful you will get burned and it happens often. I had a friend who got burned all over her legs and underarms by a Dr….So make sure the place has good reviews and ratings…Dont go to any shady places,,,its really not worth it you dont want to end up scarred!

I’ve had about 5 treatments on my lip, and the hair is pretty much gone.  It’s kind of annoying because I expected it to be all gone by now, but that’s why they call it laser hair ‘reduction’ instead of removal….. 6 sessions should result in a 90% reduction in hair.  Still worth it, IMO… stings a little but not bad.
