jayrock :  That is bizarre. I never stopped shaving for my 2 years of treatments…

wolfeyes :  Yep, they said no hair removal whatsoever in between, so I never actually went ahead with the treatments even though I love the idea. Maybe I’ll look into it again…

jayrock :  for laser hair treatment you can shave. Before I went down that alley, I tried another treatment (electrical where they need the hair to remain so they can send a shock of electricity down each hair follicle). Is that the treatment you are talking about? It didn’t work for me.

I’ve had my brows, hairline, sideburns, chin, lip, underarms (4 sessions), lower leg (5 sessions) and brazillian (3 sessions) done. I started with my face at a laser clinic then got a groupon for legs at a salon. I was comfortable with going to a salon for legs, because if I ended up with burns, it wouldnt be the end of the world but I was very particular about the tech who lasered my face. I saw results immediately. I’m not completely hairless, but drastically reduced in all areas.

I would shave my legs & pits in the morning and have visable stubble by that night. I’d go for brazillian waxes every 4 weeks and have 1/2 cm regrowth by my next appointment. Now I shave my legs once a month and its usually because I can feel little leg hairs blowing in the breeze but I cant really see any haha. Same with underarms. With my brazillian, I always somehow end up with a missed patch, so that sucks, but the hair there is so sparse and fine now that I can actaully shave the patch it if I care to. I used to not be able to shave because I’d end up with unbearable razor burn & ingrowns. 10/10 would do it again but make sure to do your research and go somewhere reputable with staff who take outside training. Also, numbing cream is awesome. I dont use it on my face, but I do use it on my underarms & brazillian. It just makes it a much more bearable experience.

jayrock :  I’ve never heard of this before and actually my laser tech has me shave the day of my treatment so the laser is drawn right into the folicle instead of to the end of the hair. You’re not supposed to wax between though!

I’ve had one session so far – underarms plus brazilian.  The first session was almost 6 weeks ago, I’m having my second session tomorrow.  I’ve seen a huge difference in the underarms with just the one session, I’m really pleased.  Haven’t seen much difference in the brazilian area yet, but the package I bought contains 8 sessions so hopefully that will be enough to make a significant difference.

jayrock :  The place I go says you can shave as much as you like between sessions, you just can’t wax.

eurasianbee :  No it was definitely laser, I’ve also tried electrolysis before.

Ok well I’ve received tons of replies saying that you CAN shave in between, which is great news for me. I’m definitely gonna go for another consultation but a different clinic this time! OP you can ignore my first post 🙂

wolfeyes :  That’s strange too! My place requires that you shave absolutely everything off before treatment. If there’s hair there at all it will hurt a lot and isn’t as effective.

I haven’t but my Fiance has!! He’s a werewolf looking man and had three sessions done years ago back in HS. It didn’t do anything for him. But that was quite a while ago, 10+ years, so technology has come further. And he definitely needed more sessions.

teacher-bee-in-the-sea :  I did it 14 years ago on my bikini area. It took 9 sessions and I was almost hair free for years. Not sure if it is because I’m pre Meno, but it has grown back (thinner). I’m also getting hair where there was none before. My experience was good enough that I got my upper lip done two years ago. Still hair free there.

I did 6 sessions on my underarms several years ago. I have fair skin/dark hair. It made a big difference at first, but then it all came back eventually.  I’ve been told I need to keep doing touch ups 1-2x a year, which I never did, so maybe that was the problem.

teacher-bee-in-the-sea :  I have side burns thanks to my heritage. I get it threaded every 3 weeks but I was considering laser a few years ago. I went to a specialized hair removal place that had good reviews. The lady behind the counter did a consult and booked me in for my first appointment. She wrote in her  appointment book:

    Cmsgirl  laser removal on FASE

When I saw she spelt face incorrectly, I cancelled as I didn’t  trust someone who can’t spell face to use laser equipment 😦

I’m keen to pursue this again so I’m following this thread!

I’m currently doing my legs, underarms, and face. So far it seems worth it, although it is very expensive. I go to a cosmetic doctor who performs the treatment – not a tech. Cost is way higher than the groupon offers that are really popular, but to me it’s worth it.

I had so many chin hairs and after 3 treatments I have about two or three on each side. I guess the real test is to see how long the results last after I’m done with treatments!
