I’m not sure of the safety. I just wanted to weigh in with my experience. I had laser hair removal done on my underarms before I got pregnant. It took seven sessions for me, and was considered successful. I completed my sessions maybe two or three months before I got pregnant. By the end of my first trimester, my hormones caused some of the hair to start growing again….I mean, not A LOT (and it is fair in colour), but there is enough that I have to shave. Personally, I’d suspend my treatments until after the baby is born so that you don’t have to worry about paying for ‘touch ups’ after you give birth.

I would say no. Not safe while pregnant.

I stopped doing it when I was pregnant. Not even worth doing a comparison of benefits versus risks…its purely cosmetic. Congratulations!!

I was always advised that bring pregnant (or going through metapause) would cause the “hormonal” hair (underarm and bikini) to come back so I would personally wait till after

I don’t know about safety either – though I would probably err on the safe side. Chiming in to agree with snowflake8,  though. I would really like to get laser hair removal (yay PCOS and Italian heritage!) but after reading about it decided to wait until after I’m done with pregnancy because of the likelihood of having it grow back. I’d rather only go through it (and spend the money) once!

snowflake8 :   haha same thing happened to me . I completed 5 underarm laser treatments was happy with results few mos before I got pg. During first trimester, hair started growing back more frequently although it was less and very light. I just wax it now. I’ll def need touch ups after I have the baby. I had Brazilian laser about a year ago and that hasn’t grown back like the underarms have. I was going to start leg treatments right before I found out I was pg but heard it wasn’t safe and didn’t want the hair to grow back and have more appointments in my schedule than my regular Dr appts. I’d wait if I was u however if u already started ur treatments I would finish it out

I’d wait to finish it til your homones normalize again and to minimize any possible risks to the baby. I’m also pretty sure the risk of melasma (darkening of the skin) is higher while pregnant. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I was in the same situation – went to the salon and told them I was pregnant. They congratulated me and told me to come back when I am ready 🙂

I am an esthetican and laser tech, and while I’ve never seen any adverse reactions when treating someone who is pregnant, we always have to get their doctors consent due to liability.  But with all the hormones it’s kind of fighting a losing battle.
