Tomorrow I have an appointment at the DMV to change my name on my driver’s license and all my car paperwork. It is the last thing I need to do in order to have completely taken my DH’s name. It feels kind of strange to know I’m no longer going to be known by my maiden name. I got my new Social Security Card last week and have already sent away for my new passport. My credit cards and bank account info are all changed. It’s a strange feeling.
It’s a bit of a trip since I’m reminded of it daily because of my job. I work with kids and used to have them call me “Miss Katie’ because my maiden name is long and hard to say. Now, my new schools have a policy of all teachers, SLPs, etc being Mr/Miss/Mrs. Last Name, so now I’m Mrs. Married Name. A couple of times, some of the kids I work with have called me by Mrs. Married Name and I have not responded right away. In the back of my mind, it seems like they should be talking to my Mother-In-Law.
Any other bees having any growing pains dealing with their new names?
ETA: I should mention that in San Diego county (and probably the whole state), you don’t automatically get sent an offical copy of your marriage certificate after you file your signed marriage license. I hade to go down to the County Clerk’s office to pay for official copies. The clerck assured me I’m not the only newlywed who was expecting to be receiving a copy in the mail after the wedding.
