- Wedding: April 2012
After crying for half an hour about this I thought I might have a vent on here to try and feel better.
Firstly, I am getting married in Vanuatu in six days. We leave in four. I bought my dress off lightinthebox about four months ago. It is quite simple but I wanted/needed alterations done.
Thus begins my alteration story. I took my dress to a lady recommended to me Early January. I wanted a black satin sash and bow added,as well as the bust pulled in a bit. She told me it would take five weeks and to come back mid February. No worries!
I returned on the fitting date with my mum. The lady couldn’t locate my dress for about 10 minutes until she finally pulled it out. Alas nothing had been done to it! In five weeks it had been hidden away and not touched!! (Should have cut my loses there and then but as she’d been highly recommended and I’d already paid I let it slide)
I returned the next week and everything had been done and was pretty perfect! I realised I no longer wanted some of the ruffles around the neck and needed the back slightly changed. No worries! Come back next week!
I returned a week later again. Early March now and one month left. She’d made the changes but we found a stain on the back. The pleating on the bust wasn’t sitting right now so she promised to dry clean and steam it. (She does these as part of her business too.)
I was feeling okay with a month to go and as I had been losing about a kilo a week on a strict diet, told her I’d return a week before for a final fitting and taking in (Her request too). I do so last Thursday when I told her I’d need it by today because I was visiting my sick Nan and wanted to show her before we left for the Destination Wedding. The steaming and dry claening hadn’t been done but I let that slide as she said it would be AFTER she takes it in for the last time.
So… today. (Thursday) I head in at about 11am. She ignores me for about 20minutes fiddling with something. I sit patiently and wait. She finally looks up and says ‘Oh hello! Jump in the dressing room and I’ll bring it to you.” She brings it to me and… nothing has been done!!!! It’s still wrinkled dirty and pinned. I nearly passed out!!
She said It’ll be done by tomorrow afternoon. (Friday here in Aus) . I leave 6am Monday morning. I was polite and went and cried in the carpark! My only bridesmaid is supposed to pick her dress up from there tomorrow morning also.
Another friend is picking her dress up from another place today and thinks I should take my dresss elsewhere and get things fixed but the time limit scares me!!! I’m taking my mum back to check this afternoon (Thursday afternoon) on progress. I have never been inpolite. Should I be a bit nastier? Advice much apprecited 🙂
