Sorry for the 100 questions.
I legally removed the hyphen in my first name and changed my last name. Yay! I have already changed it with the SS office as well.
I want to go to the RMV to get my new license but was wondering do I need to wait for my new SS card to arrive or can I take the receipt that they gave me at the SS office with my new name.
The woman at the SS office said that I can take this receipt to the RMV but I went to the RMV website to find locations and time and found the following:
“I was recently married/divorced and need to correct my name on my license/ID. What do I need to do?
You should make the change with the Social Security Administration(SSA) before you change your name on your driver’s license. This is to ensure that the SSA recognizes your new name when the RMV attempts to validate your SSN
Please visit any full service RMV office. You will need your social security card w/ your new name, a completed Class D, M, or D/M License and ID Card Application, and $25 to have the amended license/id issued.”
I would just hate to wait in those dreadful lines only to find out that the receipt isn’t sufficient.
