I think maybe it’s different depending on where you are, but on my certificate there was a spot for my maiden (legal) name, and then a spot for my new name which could be anything I wanted. Was yours not like this?

I’m also from a Latin Country. Thankfully, I did not have a middle name, so my original name was Sunshine X and Y. When I was naturalized, it had both X and Y names as my last names, yet when my SS was updated, it dropped the Y; I was a child also. Thus, all my documents from HS and on contain only the Sunshine X name. When we completed the marriage certificate, I decided to take his last name S, and just pushed my X name to my middle name. Now I’m Sunshine X S. It wasn’t an issue at all. But I can see with the Smith being dropped earlier, it would make things more complicated for you.
