Everything will look dated at some point. But you shouldn’t avoid something for that reason. If you love the lattice, then use it. If you don’t like it, then skip it. It doesn’t sound like you’re being forced to use it.

The door might be easier to dress up/cover up than the lattice. Have any pictures?

You can hide the door but not the lattice. Get a ton of sheer fabric (either white or in your wedding colors) and a box or two of white Christmas lights. Put the lights at the top of the door and drape the fabric over that. You shouldn’t even be able to tell what the door looks like at that point.

What about doing it I’m front of a window? You can hang white strand lights and cover with a sheer window covering, I will try to find a pic….

Personally I think the lattice is fine…but for another idea, at my wedding they dragged the cake out into the middle of the dance floor (so that everyone could see?) and now in our pictures the backdrop is our wedding guests.  I actually love the pictures that way – my FAVE is us cutting the cake with the flower girl in her mom’s arms with a HUGE smile on her face! Nothing I would’ve even thought to plan, but that pic makes me smile everytime I see it.
