Hello all… I’m a regular poster going anon to protect mine and my husband’s identity.
In 2006, before my husband and I met, my husband suffered a mental health episode and ended up with felony charges. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity of those charges and spent the next 2 years in a mental health institution. In 2009, he was released and his sanity was legally restored by the court. Today, my husband takes his medication religiously and never in the time that I have known him has he experienced anything like what happened to him in 2006. Unfortunately, the arrest records, charges, and not guilty by reason of insanity ruling still appear on his criminal record and he is unable to get a job anywhere that runs criminal background checks. Obviously, this has been a huge problem for us both and he is unable to advance in any kind of career.
We would like to speak to a lawyer and see if it is possible to get the records expunged but we don’t know what kind of lawyer we need to see. We live in California, by the way. I’m not sure if any legal bees can help direct me to the right kind of lawyer, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thank you for your help in advance!
