I’ve been out of work on FMLA for 3 wks and just found out that my manager and 2 direct supervisors went to work for a new company. I will likely be laid off when I return to work next month or shortly thereafter. I want to apply for a job at my former boss’ new company, but the website does not have any open positions posted. My bosses are all standoffish and we were never close, but they’ve all been adamant about liking my work.
I think the best thing to do is email them my resume and cover letter and ask if I can assist them in any capacity at their new company. I’m drawing a blank about exactly how to word this email… can anyone please help? Thanks so much!

I would wait until you’re laid off. You will likely get a severance, and you can collect unemployment as well. A position may open up by then, or you can start networking with your former bosses.

Arae83: I need to contact them now because there are other people at my current company that are trying to get in with the new company as well. I need to act fast to secure a position. The severance and unemployment are not that important to me — working with my former team is though! I didn’t even find a job posting section on the new company’s website so I’m hoping that this just means that they don’t post their jobs and use a headhunter or something.

mseagles: Whay not use the wording you gave in this thread?
email them my resume and cover letter and ask if I can assist them in any capacity at their new company.
Make sure you mention something in your cover letter that shows you know something about the company and state how you think you can be of service to them.
Also contact your former boss and supervisors and ask if you can use them for a reference.
