I am planning on doing a similar layout.  I like this because very few tables will have to be moved for dancing, therefore very few guests will lose their table when dancing begins. (assumming the alternative would be to set tables up on the dance floor.)  The guests have plenty of time to talk before and after dinner, and unless it’s with people at my own table I’m not likely to talk with too many people while I’m eating anyways.

I’m trying to imagine the layout in my brain, but I can’t.

Anyway, with the weddings I’ve been to, it’s looked like (excuse this crude “drawing”).

—-{sweetheart or bridal party table}

~~~~~~~~{dance floor}~~~~~~~~~~
{guest tables}
The guest tables mainly filled the remainder of the room, so some may be over to the left and right, for overflow, but usually the dance floor is in the “middle” of the layout.
i guess it depends on the venue floor plan, where the dance floor is, how big the room is and how many guests/tables you are having.
