- Wedding: June 2012
My partner (a med student) is leaving on Sunday for a 7-week clerkship in Connecticut (5-hour drive), and from there he heads to Maine for Internal Medicine for 6-weeks (about a 5 1/2 hour drive).
We’ve been together for just shy of four years at this point, but about 3 months into dating we were long distance for 4 months while I finished my last semester at college. He was able to come visit almost every weekend (it was only about 2 1/2 hours away), and we hadn’t been together very long.
Now we’ve been living together for nearly three years, and I feel pretty reliant on him. I mean, I’m a tough cookie & have lived alone before, but he is such a part of my lifestyle now that I’m anticipating this seperation to be really hard.
I’m finishing up graduate school in the next three weeks, so I’ll be crazy busy. Plus, I was just hired at a new job, so I’ll start part time until I graduate and then I”m full time (Second week in May).
This coming week is totally nuts, I’m presenting at two conferences in addition to meetings, classes, a doctor’s appointment, and a case presentation, but instead of feeling distracted I feel the weight of him leaving even more. Like all the stress is just piling on, rather than keeping my mind off of him leaving.
Med School adds a whole other ball of mess in there too, but honestly he does a pretty good job of balancing the stress and obligations of that with maintaing a personal life.
Mostly I just wanted to share my story and maybe meet some people who can commiserate. So Hi! 🙂
