@Nola: As the bride, you and your fiance will pick with your officiant what YOU want read at your wedding. It is not up to the reader. My cousin and his wife assigned me a verse from Corinthians (Love is patient, etc.)

Edit- As for whether or not they use the bible, i believe they do, they just ALSO use the book of Mormon. Pick a few readings you’d like read and ask your brother which he’d be most comfortable reading. he’ll more than likely be fine with it. If not, you can possibly choose a romantic poem or a reading from a non-religious text.

Yes, They use the bible (King James Version – Old Testament and New Testament) in addition to the Book of Mormon.

I’m LDS, so I can definitely answer this question 🙂  We believe in both the Bible & the Book of Mormon, and that the Book of Mormon goes hand in hand with the Bible.  So, if you would like a Bible verse read, that wouldn’t be a problem at all!  Asking him to read out of the Bible in no way would be going against his religion…reading from the Bible is just as natural as reading out of the Book of Mormon.

Both my husband and I are non-active LDS folk…(don’t really believe in religion,) and at our recent civil ceremony we had an LDS Bishop serve as our officiant, mostly to make Mother-In-Law happy. It worked out well though, and he read a scripture from the Bible and not the Book of Mormon. Turned out great! I’m sure your brother won’t care either way.  Good luck to you!
