OK, so, it was thankfully only my parents so far, but my dad called me today and said that their mailman made them pay 20 cents extra to receive our wedding invite.
I’m so mad! Before I sent the whole batch out, I mailed the invite to myself 3 times and never had an issue. And it doesn’t have any layers, pockets, embellishment (besides one ribbon around a few pieces of paper).
HOWEVER I didn’t take it the post office like EVERYONE says you should. So, as a lesson to everyone else, don’t think that you are too awesome to take it to the post office like I did.
So far our bridal party and my in-laws has already received the invite, no problem. I’ve even gotten 9 responses back so far. So, please cross your fingers with me that my parents invite issue is an isolated incident. And learn from my stupidity.

Aw, I’m sorry that happened. I read a post like this just before we sent ours out so we made sure to go to the post office.
Hopefully it was just an isolated incident!

I took mine to the post office to have it weighed. It came in RIGHT at the price mark. She said that I was basically taking a risk if I sent them out without extra postage, so I did. I imagine that happened to you. Sometimes a little bit of air or just a smidge bigger invitation can throw off the weight. Sorry that happened to you!

I took mine to two post offices and weighed them at both places just to be on the safe side

@bells: 2 post offices is a good idea!

We ended putting on a little extra postage- partially from fear. Unfortunately some of our envelopes came undone when we dropped them off so the Post Office stuck tape on the flap and an ugly stamp saying “sent unsealed: Waco”. I’ve only had one response like this so hopefully it was an isolated incident because everyone else said they liked them.
