I am having my dress altered at the location where the wedding is. They tell you to bring a friend on the last fitting to learn to do the bustle…only problem is that all of my BMs and family live somewhere else. Do I bring a random friend and then make sure they are around when it comes time to bustle my dress?? Or do I just hope someone can figure it out? I’m not sure I will even be able to find anyone to come with me, since I am just moving to the area (and it’s the middle of the day)…

@NavyBride2013: what about mom? brother or sister? dad? any other family memeber? It might be nice to pick someone who you wanted to give a part to in the wedding, but weren’t able. I might have my aunt help me with my bustle bc i know it will mean a lot to include her! (and my Maid/Matron of Honor will be like 8 months pregnant at my wedding!)

I think you can just ask them to show you how to do it and you relay that to whoever will bustle the day of. Bustles typically aren’t that complicated. Put button in hole, put pinhok in pin, etc. ha ha I’m sure someone can figure it out. I wouldn’t stress!

Do you have an iPhone? You could videotape it.

When I picked up my dress I just had them show me how to do it, then the day before showed my mom. The day of she did a great job. Unless it is super crazy, it is not that hard to do, BUT needs to be figured out before the time to bustle comes. That could be super stressful.

Do not just hope it will bustle correctly. I didn’t have any friends in the area where I had alterations and figured I could just watch her and relay the information. My bustle looked fantastic when the seamstress did it and when she had me practice. Day of I tried to give instructions and my bustle looked terrible!

I am going to have one of the girls at the shop take a video so that my mom and mom can watch it (and I can see it too and help out if necessary)

If it’s an overbustle, it shouldn’t be a problem. But I had a French bustle, three people were there to watch it being done, and it was a MESS on the actual day!

Haha thanks, I will prob have someone videotape it or find someone to bring along (although may be weird b/c won’t be a BM). I have zero family in driving distance!

Mine is color coded. Can they do that?
