I went shopping after work and bought a black leather A-line skirt to wear to work for an event next Saturday. The length is more than appropriate (it goes down almost to my knees), similar to the bottom right.
Darling Husband doesn’t like it and has planted the seed in my head that it is not appropriate to wear to work. For the record, I am a manager at a bookstore and I would wear it with a blouse like this:
So ladies, what say you? Yay or Nay to a leather skirt being work appropriate?

I don’t think it’s work appropriate, personally. Sorry, OP!

I would say yay. It’s not like it a leather miniskirt that screams biker chick. The length seems appropriate for work, and a blouse would soften the overall look. Keep the top light and airy and I think you should be just fine 🙂

I say it’s totally appropriate and sounds very cute!

I would say probably not. IMO if there’s a question about it being appropriate, the answer is probably no.

I would totally wear it to work! I don’t wear leather as a vegetarian, but I would love a faux leather skirt like this. It’s a cook look, edgy and soft at the same time. I love it!

You said it’s an event and not a normal work day – then yeah, for sure! You’ll look great.

Given the questionable material, I’d make sure it’s a super conservative cut. To the knee or longer.

@MiraJo: I also bought a nude gauzy cotton top and a burnt orange one. Right now the plan is to pair the nude one with a bright chunky necklace or the burnt orange with some bling.
@peasantsong: I am sure it is faux leather. I bought it at the mall haha.
@JenGirl: It is very close to knee length. Dress code requires that we wear hose or tights and closed toe shoes at work if that helps make it less scandalous.
Thank you everyone for your opinions!

If you wore it with dark opaque tights in the fall or winter, then maybe. Otherwise, not work appropriate. Cute, just not appropriate.

I would say it really depends on where you work. I wouldn’t wear it to my current job as it would actually have me looking over dressed. I interviewed for a new job and while I was waiting in the lobby, a woman walked by who worked there and she was wearing a full leather dress, so if I got the job there I’d wear a leather skirt to work.

I think it’s appropriate as long as it isn’t club wear/skin tight. I really love that last pic of the black skirt with the silver shoes and grey sweater – so cute!!

@MissTatas: Where do you live geographically? If you work in or near a city, I think it will be fabulous and totally fine to wear!
The middle of nowhere? Maybe less so…

I think its cute and looks nice…
On a side note, stuff like this DOES attract attention, hence your husband doesn’t like it. I know a friend of a friend that has one that was NOT allowed to wear hers for the simple fact that her husband thought it would attract too much attention. Personally, I don’t like it when people are insecure and I think that people should wear what they want as long as they aren’t doing anything wrong. I say go for it!
