I have two dogs, 4 years and 3 years. They’re typically alone for up to 8 hours, but I can leave them alone for more with no issues. They’ve got each other,no one gets into anything (now that we’ve got a locking trash can).

Our dog is about 4 years old and we leave her alone for around 8 to 10 hours a day on the days we work. We have left her up to 12 hours but that happens rarely. She’s pretty happy to lay on the couch or the bed or somewhere else she’s not supposed to be or chase the cat around ๐Ÿ˜‰

We rarely leave our dogs home alone. If we are just going for an errand or two we will leave them (always less than 4 hours), but when we are at work or gone for long periods they go to “doggie daycare” aka grandma’s house! It’s kind of a pain to run them sometimes but no different than running a kid and it’s so worth the trip. They get so happy when we pull up to grandma’s house and they run inside.

They are the same age, littermates at 22 months and have some seperation issues so it is the best option for us and we are so thankful my mom is will to look after them.

i have pretty long days.  but my girls have the best set-up ever.

the doggie door is the greatest invention in the history of the world.  my girls are confined to the kitchen by day (to minimize mess and prevent disaster), but they have doggie door access to the back yard to pottie, bark at birds, play, etc.

@SweetAdelineXO:  We have a Wheaten as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

We can leave our 1 year old Wheaten Terrier alone in her crate for 10 hours (which we had to do at one time when we both worked a lot).  However, now that I am at home she stays out all day long.

I hate crating her at all, but she does well when left in there.  If we are going to be away for several hours we would much rather just leave her with his parents than crate her ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a really interesting thread – thanks for sharing, everyone! I really want to get a puppy if/when we move. Our current landlord does not allow pets, but its likely we will be moving because of DH’s job next summer. Depending on his job situation, he may work from home frequently, which would be perfect. Otherwise, I don’t know how we would handle working full-time with a puppy. ๐Ÿ™

I would not leave my girl home more than 8 hours.  She would have to go and she would get naughty.  I try to keep it 6 as the max.  She just turned 5.
