So even the title of this post makes me cry lol.  My animals are my FAMILY and if they can’t go, I can’t either.  I don’t have a “plan” because I wouldn’t leave them.  I’m from the south where there are a lot of tornadoes and every time I had to leave my house in college, I packed them up and took them to the shelter with me.  Who cares if someone thinks I’m the crazy cat lady in there?

Hell yes. I would leave behind my entire house without a second glance to save my dog. Absolutely, 100%.

Wow – I read the title of your post, and my first that was:

UMMM….NO!!!!  ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Hurricanes are SUPER EASY to avoid – everyone has tons of warning!  I hope that the pet owners on the east coast are doing the responsible thing and not abondoning their pets!

My animals are my family, they are our children. If I lost everything I owned, as long as they were safe with us that is all that matters to me. I can’t fathome leaving them behind.

Nope, not a chance. I got stuck in a flooded area a few years back and as soon as the road was opened up (with more threat of additional flooding to come), I packed up the cats and went to my mom’s! I left everything ELSE behind!

I might grab my dog before my husband. Don’t judge!!!

I was irked by the post you mentioned as well. Don’t understand it one bit.

Why would you even think to leave them behind. Even if I go on vacation, in driving distance, my dogs come. They are very much a part of our family. I even looked to see if local shelters needed foster families.

Fiance and I have already joked about packing up our cat and snake and heading upstate, far away from the hurricane! We would never, ever, ever leave our pets behind.. they are like children to us!

@MrsMaine: Hahaha I was going to say something similar! Homeboy can rescue himself, the dog cant!

I would like to hear someones reasoning for why they would leave their animals?! It doesn’t make sense to me. Why WOULDN’T you take them?

I would take my pets along (dog and cat) along as long as that was an option. For things like hurricanes, there is plenty of advance warning to figure out a plan. This spring/summer, we had a bunch of tornado warnings. We had our plan of where we’d go if one hit and I would take our pets with us.

@MrsPinkPeony: Right?? The only disaster where I can possibly think of leaving a pet behind is if your house is burning down. I know animals get scared and hide and sometimes it is impossible to get your pets out without sacrificing your own life as well…

Nope.  Never, ever will I abandon my animals. They’re family.  They have feelings as well.  I can’t imagine how scared an animal may be if something serious were to happen.  I don’t care what people say.  My dog will always be by my side.
