Ok..first off..I’m talking about the giant 36″ diameter perfectly round balloons. We’re not using them randomly, we met at a concert where giant 6′ round “balloons” hung from the ceiling and we’re designing our wedding around this concert.
I’ve googled the hell out of “LED BALLOON LIGHTS” and I’m just concerned that the LED would be a little dim inside the giant balloon, plus the latex is extremely thick. Has anyone seen the LED balloons in person? How did they look?
Advice? Suggestions? Alternatives?
MY INSPIRATION PICS!!!

it looks like those balloons are being lit more by the blue/purple spotlights aimed at them than from an LED within them. do you have the possibility of setting up pin lights at your venue to highlight the balloons?

Oh I know the balloons are being lit by the spotlights, we’re trying to re-create by using the LEDs that you stick inside the balloons. I’m wondering if anyone has experience or has seen these in person. We’re going to buy the balloons and LED balloon lights to play, but I thought I’d get the Bees opinions first.
I’m not sure about pin lights…I’m having a hard enough time trying to figure out how to hang the ballons (let alone pin lights). The dance floor area has cathedral ceiling so it’s kinda tough. Plus our ceremony is in this space, then during dinner the ceremony chairs go away and the space becomes the dance floor (they are separate rooms; dining, dance/ceremony, cocktail, and 2 outdoor patios)

got it. i’m afraid i don’t have any advice then other than trial and error….get some balloons and LEDs and try it out! as for hanging, try hanging lines of clear fishing line across the room, from wall to wall. you can then hook the balloons onto the fishing line, instead of having to worry about getting all the way up to the cathedral ceiling. if you don’t want them there for the ceremony, just hang the lines beforehand and then have someone clip the balloons on during the cocktail hour.

maybe if you got the led lights in stings and when you tie the balloon off hold the light so its in the middle of the balloos and tie the string in the knot? that would light it up and you wouldnt see the light sitting on the balloon. you should probably get the thick latex so its less likely to pop. that would be a little bad

I was thinking about doing this same thing, but filling the balloons with helium, rather than going to the trouble of hanging them from the ceiling. I’d love to hear whether or not LED lights in round balloons work well.

does it have to be a round balloon? or can u use round paper lanterns? because lights show through the lanterns much better than balloons

omg… you met at the Hampton show??? SO glad to see another Phish phan on WB! I am SUPER jealous you got tickets!! How awesome that you met there!! I saw the videos tho, wasn’t it funny when the one balloon popped over Page? lol! We got to see them all 4 nights at Red Rocks last year, as well as The Gorge, and we live in Ohio so that was an amazing trip.
As for the balloons, no I have not seen them but good luck and amazing inspiration, that is going to rock!! Our band at our wedding was our friend’s band, Phiasco, and they mainly play alot of Phish but a bunch of other stuff as well… Dead, Stevie, Talking Heads, etc. Seriously, they are dead on. If you are anywhere remotely near the Louisville KY area or any of the surrounding states PM me and I can give you their contact info, they made our reception ROCK, even people who don’t know anything about Phish were raging on the dance floor. I can email you a video so you can see if you PM me.
One of my favorite moments of the evening was the 2nd or 3rd song they played – they busted into 2001 hahaha! I was over the moon to be dancing to that at my wedding! Also at the end of the night, when they were being told to cut it off by the coordinator, they didn’t listen and went right into Sample, with all the lights on and the staff starting to clean up but we were oblivious, loving it on the dance floor 🙂

@mud rat: You don’t hang pin lights, they are on a stand. I think you might be biting off more than you can chew trying to DIY this. You or your family might be a mess trying to get this set up on the day of. Pin spots are not very expensive, I believe it was $80 for 8 lights in our rental package. I would speak to a pro and see what they can do for you.

you can even buy the paper chinese lanterns in any size and color and then buy floralytes (google them – they are really nifty) and hang the floralytes inside the paper lanterns. That’s what I’m planning to do above our dance floor. I can’t wait. I’ve googled so many pictures of lit-up chinese lanterns and they can look amazing. good luck!
