i had leep done a few years ago after an ubnormal pap, and i remember some pain, but it wasnt untolerable, and my gyn did it in her office. If i remember right i went home afterwards and laid on couch all day, but was back to work the next day or hte following. They never said anything about no sex or water for 4 weeks. I would double check that detail, seems odd to me. Perhaphs they are taking more cells from your uterus than they did mine? Good luck! O btw, after this procdure, my paps have been normal since!

I had one done about eight years ago…I had a bit of post-op discomfort/pain, but I don’t think it was much worse than period pain. I had it done under general anaesthetic. My paps have been normal since then too, and my gyno said that it wouldn’t affect my fertility/ability to conceive. Good luck – you’ll be fine!

Good luck today!  I hope you’re like the others and start having normal Paps after this.  Have you asked the doctor about fertility and maintaining a pregancy?  I read somewhere that there’s a procedure they can do if you get pregnant and if they think your cervix won’t stay closed where they sew it shut.  They’d have to deliver the baby by c-section, but he/she would still be ok.

I had a leep done 4 years ago now have normal paps and am 10 weeks pregnant so it is possible to get pregnant afterwards. Im not sure if it will have any effect on me having a healthy pregnany. I was told that since i had the procedure there is a change i may have to have my cervix stitched but it is a small chance. best of luck with everything. i am sure it will all turn out fine

beachbride1216  – i second this – this was my exact experience. Everything has  been fine since and i just told myself during the procedure that if I couldn’t handle THIS pain, how would I have a kid? It was not bad at all (but I have a high tolerance for pain). On another note, financially it completely wiped out my HSA (health savings account) :/

I had this done several years ago after abnormal pap and biopsy. OB thought there maybe precancerous cells and wanted to do the LEEP. I was terrified and horrified, but it turned out ok. and good news is any questionable cells are no longer there 🙂

I thought the biopsy was far worse than the actual LEEP.

I had it done a year ago, I was put under and the anesthesia was the worst part for me, some cramping the next day, but I was told no sex or baths for only seven days afterward. Good luck!

@beachbride1216:  I had a LEEP a year and a half ago and I felt the same exact way you described. I felt so ashamed and unclean, I still sometimes do so I try not to think about it. I also didnt want to have sex for a while afterwards because I was afraid of how it was healing and also because I felt ashamed. :/ Thankfully my doc said my last 3 paps have come back clean so I can go back to once a year but I am always worried the cancer cells will come back or that I might have trouble carrying a baby to full term. Im sorry you are going through this right now. Im not sure how old you are but I was 22 when I had my LEEP and it was a really scary time for me. Good luck and I hope you heal quickly!

@beachbride1216:  I had a leep a couple of months ago and sounds like a similar experience – the worst part is getting the cervical block (when they numb you up).  Though my doc somehow missed a spot so I felt the very end of the loop – eee! But it was momentary and I wasn’t expecting it so it wasn’t a big deal.

I fully agree with you that I was happy after 6 years of irregular paps/colposcopies to just be doing something about it.  I am very confident that you will be fine and be able to have a baby! I’m about to turn 29 and we aren’t even going to start trying for another year.

One tip – I thought I had stopped bleeding/spotting, but twice basically the scab fell off and I started gushing blood (gross I know).  So I would keep wearing a pad at least if you are at work to avoid any embarrassing situations for a bit longer after you stop spotting.  (I was fine but I was VERY thankful when this happened the first time at work that it happened to be Friday and I was wearing dark jeans…)

I had a LEEP done 2 years ago and have had clean paps ever since! My GYN had me go to the hospital and have it done so I didn’t deal with any pain. Definitely some cramping afterwards, but it reminded me of having the colposcopy done. I did wear a pad for a few days after to catch the oozey junk (yuck). I definitely felt gross though..
