Fiance and I went to get our marriage license – I wanted to keep my middle and maiden as my middle name, and take his last name. The person at the counter made me doubt my decision – she said all four names have to be on all legal documents and that could be troublesome, and if I ever wanted to change it it would be very costly through the legal system. We walked away so I could think about it more. If you have four names what have been your experiences with formal legal documents?

I have 4 names, it’s not always easy, but it’s worth it because all of my names mean so much to me. As long as all 4 names are on your passport, drivers license, and SS card, you’ll be fine. Credit card companies and all that just don’t seem to care much and if anything they just use your two middle initials. If it’s something very important for you I say go for it!

I think it would just be a pain to fit all of that in the boxes on forms. if they are short names maybe it will fit, and won’t be a problem. I don’t really see major issues with it though if ss card, passport and drivers license have the full name. and i don’t think most other places care, I never use my middle name on anything unless required.

My son and most the men in my family are born with two middle names. I only have 3 names like most people and I can’t fit my name into anything so I don’t think it will matter that much.
