We were right at 3.5 years. I don’t think it’s weird to get engaged in under a year, per se. However, I think you’ll get less grief if you do that at 28 than if you’re 19.

maloussii:  We were together for a year before getting engaged. Some acquaintances said we were rushing things. However, we were both adults at the time (31) so those comments were limited to very few people.

We were together for 9 months. We have an 11 month engagement. No one has given us any grief. Not sure they would to our faces anyway. We are older though 38 and 40 so that seems to make a difference to people perspective I expect.

We dated for 1 year and 3 months before we got engaged and our engagement was 11 months. Darling Husband and I were both in our early 30s when we met. The only person who said anything negative was my older brother, who thought we were rushing our relationship; everyone else was like, it’s about time! I figure his reaction was mostly because his relationship was completely different – 3 years of friendship/courtship, about 2 years of dating, and a 1.5 year long engagement. I personally always thought that my brother and SIL went way too slow, and I know that her brothers all thought the same thing, but each relationship develops at it’s own pace

It’s all up to the two of you when you feel the both of you are ready to get engaged. For my fiance and I, that was about 1 year and 10 months. We had been talking about it for nearly a year now, but we wanted a little more time, since it takes time to get to know one another. But for us, we moved in together after 5 months (we were in a LDR for those first five months, I was in my home state of Iowa, he was here in Florida), so we have had a lot of time to learn about one another and our habits and whatnot and we really mesh well together.

So for us 1 year 10 months. For others, five years minimum. You have to do whatever feels right for the both of you.

We’ve been dating for 9 years, will be getting engaged in December, and married at 10 or 11 years. We are a younger couple (24 and 25) but people are beginning to ask when it’ll happen. Obviously because we have been dating as long as we have, no one can say we are rushing things.

We got engaged right around 9 years and married a few months before the 10-year mark. We started dating young, though, and even though we knew a couple of years into it that we wanted to end up married, we waited until college was over, I was done with grad school, and we were both settled into jobs. It’s just what worked for us.

We hit 10 years in April, and I feel like I’ve been waiting forever!

We plan to get married in 2017/18, so in many ways there is no rush to get engaged, but I have an important family member who more than likely won’t be here so I want to celebrate an engagement with them.

We were together over 2 years before we got engaged. I loved enjoying the dating life, and I feel so confident marrying him now after we have been through hard times and arguements, and just normal life together.

A little over 6 months when we got engaged and our engagement was 13 months. Nobody who mattered to us gave us a hard time because the important people realized how right we were together.

We got engaged a little shy of 3 years.  We’ll be getting married 10 months after engagement.  We both started dating at 27 and will be 31 when getting married.
