Biggest determining factor was the venue. Couldn’t get in until 11 am to decorate. Ceremony at 12:30 (same location), cocktail 12:45-1:45, sit down 1:45-4:00. No dancing. Still too short!!

Ours will probably be 4 hours. Cocktail hour starts at 7, then dinner is at 8. We chose to end at 11 because I think my venue wants us completely gone by 12… they also said in the contract to have 5 consecutive hours from the ceremony to the end of the reception. Fine with me, I’m going to be extremely tired as it is!
My wedding is on a Sunday afternoon. So we don’t think it will end up being too long.
Our reception is from 7-11. I guess there’s an 11:00 curfew because our venue is a historic landmark/European style hotel + grand ballroom. I’m thinking afterparty somewhere if I’m not absolutely tired haha.
Our reception starts at 5:30pm, we will get there shortly after 6pm and dinner right away, then all the formal stuff. Dancing estimated to start by say 8:30 or 9pm. We have the venue until 1am. I’m thinking our band will play to about midnight and then we can have diy music for the remainder. This way hopefully most people will leave before we have to be out of there.
