@abbie017:  we live in Virginia and while we don’t have govie jobs, several of our friends do. It pisses me off because I feel like the republicans have been planning this the whole time as a way to defund Obsmacare, PEOPLE MEED HEALTH INSURANCE. Our country is being run to the ground while people in congress make millions by bickering like children. They obviously don’t care about whats best for our country or the people who are about to be immediately effected

Federal employee here….I’ve got savings of course, but we are closing this month so money is REALLY tight for us. Honestly, between the furloughs that we had over the summer and this I feel like it is one thing after another. I’m hoping the shutdown will only last a day or two bc that is all my budget can handle right now.

I don’t have a government job, but I live in the metro area and it definitely worries me – I work in Federal contracting at the moment, but I just got offered a job outside that sector and I feel lucky to get out of government-related business while it still exists. I know a lot of people don’t have that choice, whether they work for the government directly or as a contractor, and I can only imagine the stress they are under.

I agree – this is people’s livelihoods at stake, not just a political game.  Of course, no one in Congress has to worry about paying their bills or whether they’ll be able to get health care.

@abbie017:  what I don’t understand is how they can get paid SO MUCH but act as if there’s no where to cut corners. Really? They do not deserve the amount of money they are making, in my opinion. I also don’t get WHY people are so against Obamacare, I just don’t get it.

I am a federal employee but for some reason I’m just not that worried about this. In the past when they did something similar everyone did get paid.

I’m confused at why offices are shutting down. It’s not that the government won’t have any money, they just can’t borrow any money. They’ll still have billions of dollars in tax revenue. It makes me think…if not borrowing money sends us into this kind of tail spin, isn’t it symptomatic of a much greater problem?

@Ninteenthchance:  It’s not constitutional to require somebody to buy something and then fine them for not having it. Rates are going up for employers, families everybody. How does that make insurance more affordable? Small businesses can’t afford it and therefore are cutting back employees so they don’t have to provide it. With the massive debt we are already in, how can we fund something this big? You can’t spend your way out of debt. I don’t want to get into a big obamacare debate I just wanted to make a few points.

@abbie017:  no, I know you’re right. I just feel like making it equal for everyone is whats fair. I don’t think a lot of people understand that you really have to make next to nothing in order to qualify for the “free” healthcare. My thing is that most people have/do/will work in their lifetime and they put money into the pot too! Lets not forget this is giving women access to birth control and women will FINALLY pay an equal amount of health insurance to men.

I’m annoyed. If we shut down, Mr. LK and I are both out of work. The good news is that we will get paid for the hours already worked for this pay period (6 days), so there will be one more (smaller) paycheck coming in for each of us. If this goes longer than 2 weeks, we’ll have to start tapping our emergency fund. But that is what it is there for, right?

I’m pretty much assuming the shut down will not happen. At the last minute Boner (haha) will squash the Tea Party imbeciles, pass a clean CR, and we will live to see the debt ceiling show down in 2 weeks. That will be a ginormous clusterfuck, brinksmanship will ensue, and it will go down to the wire. Once again, Boner will squash the Tea party imbeciles, the debt ceiling will be raised, and we will move on the the current CR’s expiration in December. At that time we will go through this entire shitshow yet again. Merry fucking Christmas.

@abbie017:  It is disgusting!  It hasn’t affected me personally, YET!  But my father gets SS checks, so it will affect him.  I hope it doesn’t go there.

Unfortunately, as long as this President is President, NOTHING will get done.  I think it is terribly sad that there is no compromise on ANYTHING.  The obstruction is intentional, inspite of what it will cost millions of Americans.  And Obamacare, whether you like it or not, is the LAW.  And to to hold everything and everyone hostage is not the way to resolve the problem.

I sure hope that these buffoons get booted next election!!
