We’ve received our early invitation to THE Halloween party of the season! Cause we’re awesome, know how to get down and always bring the sauce when it comes to costumes….ANYWAY….we’re going pirate this year, and while Mr. 99 already has an incredbly debonair ensemble in black brocade and silver…the women’s department of most pirate themed stores leaves me wanting…since the clothes they have are one step above “whore” and I wanted something a little more dashing and elegant than a pair of slops and a corset with my boobs hanging out…I mean, after all…I’m supposed to be swashing buckles and such, so it calls for a bit of style….
So I’m going with this….
in a deliciously decadent chocolate and gold brocade, lined with a matching satin…..that leaves accessories…and I’m torn on whether to sport pistols, a cutlass or both…any input on that would be greatly appreciated…also, if you wanna be Halloweenies with me (costume nerds) I’m always happy to see pictures of peoples nifty duds!

@Nona99: That is awesome! I wish I could sew. I also am not a fan of the slutty Halloween costumes so my options are always limited.

@MrsPanda99: I’m just not interested in wearing something that passes for lingerie out and about….you can be terribly sexy and yet reveal almost nothing to the naked eye!
Why don’t you take a sewing class? I love that I can get some fabric and MAKE something no one else has…so cool!

@Nona99: That’s very true…I prefer a classy sexy look to a trashy sexy look. Certain clothing is for my FI’s eyes only.
I took a knitting class before (don’t mock me, lol) but I never even thought about a sewing class. That’s a great idea because it’s a useful skill and I’m looking for a new hobby 🙂

I just started getting into hand sewing a few weeks ago, I’m nowhere near the level of making Halloween costumes yet though. So far I’m just making things for my guinea pigs…at least they seem to appreciate their new cage liners and cushy house pads.
Fi really wants me to make this costume someday. He points it out every time I take him to the fabric store.

Love!! Personally, I’d pack pistols! LOL
Fiance and I LOVE Halloween and I also make my own costume! Once I taught him how to sew use the sewing machine a few years back, he started making his own too.
I’ll be back to post pics! 🙂

@Nona99: This is going to be awesome! Must see photo of fabric you will be using! I was sort of eyeing the pattern that looks like the outfit the evil sister wears in Oz, which has similarities to what you’re using, but not sure I’ll be sewing anything for this Halloween.
Totally hear you on the not wanting to dress like a ho for Halloween. I live in a college town, and everything seems to need to be a “sexy” this or that. AKA short as shit. Sexy nurse, sexy devil, sexy lumberjack…whatever. And when it rolls around to October 31st here, all of those women are freezing their a$$es off. I’m also to the point where sexy means form-fitting, instead of showing the world your beaver.
Also, I totally can’t find the thread where you were debating ordering that awesome corset from Damsel in this Dress. I want to see a pic of how your outfit turned out!

I was a marionette doll last year and Fiance was my puppet master lol
This dress was an awful pink 80s looking pencil skirt prom dress with big puffy sequinned sleeves that I found at Goodwill. I took the sleeves off, added new sleeves, the collar, and buttons. For the skirt, I took the bottom half of the dress off, shortened it a little and used that extra fabric to widen out the skirt. Then I added the lace overlay and some tulle underneath to poof it out and attached it back to the dress.
I loved my eyes for this costume. It really creeped out my friends! I used white eyeliner to color in my bottom lashes and drew a “fake” lower lash line. Then I wore long fake lashes on top and glued shorter fake lashes to the fake lash line under my eye. Really creepy look.
My work computer is being really slow today so it’s hard for me to post more pics. I’ll try to remember to post things tonight!
I have no idea what I’m doing this year…we have a lot going on right before halloween!!
