Cake snob that I am, I can not find a local baker I like so I will bake my own. Cake is my all time favorite food group which I am denying myself pre-wedding. So I want to break my self imposed cake fast with the most amazing cakes!
I am thinking I would do a small three tiered traditional wedding cake maybe 10″ 8″ 6″ and keep the top tier for our one month anniversary.
Maybe something like this only three layers:
I will also borrow CanadianBacon’s idea for these darling cupcakes:
so chocolate cake is taken care of 😀
I also plan to make two 8″ layer cakes like so:
The only issue I have now is deciding on flavors. : ( How to decide!
I will be having a dessert bar with cookies, cobbler, fudge, brownies, and an ice cream sundae bar. To those of you who think this is way to much HaHa there is never to much sugar!!! :p
I am not worried about waste as I already have people begging for all the leftovers from my dessert bar. I do want a nice selection of cake. I have no idea on how many guests. We will probably have at least 70 adults but maybe closer to 100 and an equal number of children. I can always make more layer cakes if needed.
Cake flavor ideas please!

I voted for four, even though they all sound delicious. Now…can I come to your wedding and enjoy this amazing dessert bar, too? 🙂

I voted for red velvet, carrot cake, chocolate cake, and spice cake. That first inspiration pic is GORGEOUS!! I’m rethinking our wedding cake now haha

@Miss Wallaby: I know, I’m wishing we’d had multiple cake flavors now, too. 🙂

I voted for carrot, coconut, white, and chocolate. Lemon and spice would be next in the list.

Ohhh I’m right there with you on the cake love. Its my favorite food…nom nom nom.
First, where in rural MD are you? I used to live in Washington Co.
Second, if you want to do flowers like the first (beautiful) cake pic, check out my baker’s etsy page- she sells gumpaste flowers, molds, all sorts of stuff. If you were closer to Richmond, I’d recommend her cake in a heartbeat, its delicious. http://www.etsy.com/shop/ACakeToRemember

I think we’re going to do:
Chocolate orange with chocolate grandmarnier ganache
Coconut with lime filling and coconut frosting
Pumpkin with apricot filling and cream cheese frosting
Almond with raspberry filling and almond butter cream frosting
All of which will be gluten free. I am a cake snob 😀

I’d probably pick a few traditional flavors and then a few super wacky ones. It sounds like you have a lot of kinds of chocolate already available, so maybe stick with buttercream/red velvet/cream cheese flavors for the cake.

@secondchances: Yay, you’re the best! 😉

It is super interesting that the chocolate-almond and the red velvet cake is leading the pack because they would be the last two flavors I would pick lol. That is why I asked you gals otherwise everyone would be limited to my strange tastebuds :p
