If anyone has seen this in their dog or is a vet/vet tech and could weigh in I would appreciate it.
My dog (3 y/o) started a few days ago with a bloodshot eye. It got increasingly worse, including a greenish discharge, more redness and it was squinted. She otherwise seemed fine.
I took her to the vet and I was told she likely had a bacterial eye infection, they did a stain test and saw no signs of scratches or trauma to the eye. So I want sent home with antibiotics drops – she’s had 2 doses.
Today her eye looks slightly better but she is super lethargic. She ate her food (but with less enthusiasm) and drank (a bit) but otherwise takes herself directly to her bed and flops down. When I walked in the door at lunch she usually bolts to the door to greet, today she stayed in bed. Seemed sluggish when I took her for a short walk outside to relieve herself.
Obviously I don’t want to run back to the vet just yet, as we all know it is pretty expensive ($120 just for the visit for her eye) but I am not sure if this lethargy is a part of her eye infection or if I am perhaps dealing with something more. She has had stomach issues and other small things in the past that I could attribute to eating something that didnt agree with her, but this seems very generalized and it has me nervous.
When to go to vet and when to watch and wait?
