It literally means any piece of jewelry with a single diamond. If there are side stones, an entire band of pave stones, etc. it’s not a solitare. That said, I personally still consider it a solitaire if there is a random hidden stone under the bezel somewhere that a person has to go searching to find.
Ultimately, the gemnologists have the final say.

Here’s my definition in my humble opinion: my solitaire diamond on a plain band with no side diamonds. Super simple but I love mine all the more for its simplicity. I do also love all of the variations on this thread, all beauties. ā¤ļø
