Yes, pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition if you’re pregnant (and the doctors have recorded it on your file) and then you get insurance or if your insurance changes. But there are a lot of great pregnancy resources out there for pregnant moms without insurance coverage. I think that pre-existing condition exclusions are the shittiest thing in health care.

@star_dust:  Due date is based on the first day of the last menstrual period, not the conception date (since women ovulate differently) so if you got pregnant on this cycle then the insurance might be able to claim it’s a pre-existing condition even though it wasn’t confirmed until after you were on the plan. I doubt that, though. I think they’d have a hard time denying you. Regardless, they won’t deny you insurance, but they won’t cover the pregnangy or birth if they determine it is pre-existing. I’m not an insurance agent but I did work with health insurance and now I’m in nursing school. You’d have to call the plan and ask. If you do that make sure you get something in writing (if it’s favorable to you) and that you record date/time/and the name of the agent you spoke with. If an agent tells you something (like that you’d be covered) they have to back it up regardless of if it is true but you have to provide details of the conversation.
