@BillysBride2011:  Hello!  I’m glad to see someone else 40+ on here!  🙂

I just turned 40 this past February and got engaged the day after my birthday.  First wedding, no kids of my own, but we have custody of my niece and Fiance has 2 sons and we have a LONG time off but I’m a planner to the core, so I have been trying to get organized.

I know a few places I want to have our reception and some ideas, but I haven’t made any appointments to go look yet, because I do feel we are to far out still.  Maybe over the summer I’ll venture out.  We are both full time college students too, so don’t have a lot of time right now to do much other then study!

Glad to see others in a similar situation!

@BillysBride2011:

well hello.

i get what you are saying about rasing kids and not getting a chance to honeymoon.

My SO and i have done pretty much everything backwards lol.

im 41 and so is my SO.we have been together 20 years and have a 18 year old and a 15 year old.

what is so special about us getting married now after all these years is that we get to share this day with our kids.they are our Maid/Matron of Honor and Bridesmaid or Best Man.

i still have my dad and my 84 year old grandpa.

what i do regret is not doing it just a few years sooner so i could have had my grandmas and my mom here to help me,we never thought we would marry,we were ok with our lives the way it was.but we went through a bad time last year at this time where we were splitting up.something changed as time was getting close to go our seperate ways.we just couldnt do it.there was just to much love between us,it was just buried with resentments ect from over the years.

we worked through it ourselves and for the first time at the same time we want to marry.this marriage is a new beginning for us and our family.

All this wedding planning stuff is all new to me to.so many things im learning here.im so glad though so i would know how to be able to help my kids when its their turn.

renewing your vows will be just as special and beautiful as having a wedding and you get to have your children be apart as well.

i look forward to supporting one another during our planning♥

@HisNightOwl2014:  I thought I was going to have a nervous breakdown for my 40th, but surprisingly I didn’t.  My birthday feel on a Wednesday and we get the step-kids that day, and Fiance has class that night, so I didn’t have much planned really.  It actually ended up being more of a big thing than I thought it was going to be… Had a houseful of family…not exactly what I wanted but the next night made up for not going out or doing anything special the night before!

and HAPPY EARLY BIRTHDAY!!!!

@BillysBride2011:  I did call the one place I really want for the reception and talked to the lady.  I’m really hemming and hawwing about going to look at it because they don’t want “loud” music after 10pm and we want to dance, dance, dance!  So, if we go with that place we have to think of an afterparty concept, but since neither one of us really go to the bars in the area… what do you do?

@sharonmariep:  I totally understand wanting mom/grandma’s there.  My dad is 78 and up until the last month you never would have known, but he got into a car accident about then and broke 4 ribs and just seems to be getting worse lately.

I’m scared to death something might happen to him and he won’t be around for my wedding and honestly he is the only main person I care about (other then the groom and kids of course).  I don’t really speak to my mom since she gave up on her kids when I was 16, so that hasn’t even bothered me… Ohhh I haven’t even called her yet…heehee  I did call her younger sister who I love to death so she probably knows by now.

So, has anyone tried on or found their dress yet?

@HisNightOwl2014:

i got that werid feeling at first to.like when i went to go pick out a wedding dress and thinking,will they think my daughter is the bride,one person did and that was only because my daughter went in first to let them know we were there for our appointment.

after we met our WC and went to a bridal exspo i dont feel that way anymore.

there are so many people getting married much older now then in years pass.

and 40 is no where near old.you wont feel or look any different from being 39 to 40,trust me♥

@BillysBride2011:  Also, what did you put into google to find your dress your looking for?  If I can find it by searching I  might be able to find more on it…

@sharonmariep:  I’m so glad to hear you went to a bridal expo… I had read a thread on here where most people were saying it was a waste of time.  I went to one last weekend and had a BLAST.

I’m not very good at being the center of attention, so at first it was kind of hard but I eased into it and found a few interesting vendors I will check into at a later day.  The only one I want to talk to earlier is the DJ   he seemed pretty cool!

@HisNightOwl2014:  So your orientation is the day of your 40th birthday?   WONDERFUL!

I’ve been back at college for 2 years now and graduate April 26th with my associates and then head to the university this fall working on my BSW (Bachelors of Social Work) so another 2 or 3 years still.

I would be more excited about it if it were closer and if we didn’t have drama already.   My Future Mother-In-Law and Future Sister-In-Law are going to be a HANDFUL!  They are the type to wear jeans and harley tshirts to a formal wedding ***shaking my head***.  Dont get me wrong, my daily attire is jeans and sweatshirts/tshirts, but I don’t go anywhere but school and the grocery store, but not to MY wedding!!  LOL  and that ladys was one of my first Bridezilla moments!!
