Someone actually put up a thread about this the other day where they got this to work but I can’t remember who it was.  I wouldn’t have any idea how to do this either though and honestly I didn’t even know you could do this until recently.

You can actually set up a service under most carriers that is temporary and is a one time charge. It’s similar to voting on reality shows. For instance American Idol you can text to a 5 digit number and give a number that represents each contestant (or whatever I don’t watch AI but I know they do something like this).  You can do the same thing with RSVP’s. People could text and put in the code for a meal choice for instance.  The carrier will then give you a report with the corresponding texts.  The phone numbers of where the texts came from will also be on the list in order for you to match up to your guests.  I work for a large company that designs different types of technology for communication providers and this is something that has been recently pitched. It was developed originally for large charity events as the “green” option and is now making it’s way into the bridal arena.
