jojobeans91:  Ha, ha! It is really funny how times change. And everything that’s “unpopular” at a certain time comes back around. I always wanted WG (or platinum, although we didn’t feel we could afford it at the time we got engaged) because my mom’s rings were set in WG. Hers are much older. She and my dad have been married for over 50 years. (I think they are celebrating 58 or maybe 59? this year in December.) When Darling Husband and I went to look at rings, every jeweler told us the same thing: We didn’t want white gold because that was so dated and would look too old-fashioned. Yellow gold was the best metal because that’s what everyone was using at the time, and we should want to look modern and up-to-date. For myself, that logic didn’t fly. I didn’t care about looking modern or up-to-date. I wanted what I wanted. But all they had was yellow gold, so that’s why we ended up with that. At the time, I have to admit I was disappointed. And Darling Husband always said that, one day, we would get me a ring set in a white metal, which he did for our 15th anniversary. It’s only been recently that I’ve really come around to loving yellow gold. Now, I can say I appreciate all the different metals and love the look of each one, but for different reasons.

I got engaged over 20 years ago, so I fit right in with the dymanic of your mom and aunt. Darling Husband and I had a long engagement because we were both in graduate school. Marquise cuts were also extremely popular when I got engaged.

Now, knowing what I know through my “life experience” (which makes me sound so old — LOL), my best advice to anyone would be to get whatever metal and stone shape you love the most and want to see on your hand. Whatever lights up your face with joy and gives you the warm fuzzy feelings in your heart is the right one. Because everything that’s “trendy” at the moment will one day be “unpopular and dated” … and everything that’s “unpopular and dated” will eventually come back around into the trends again. It’s a big cycle, and the smartest thing to do is just step out of it when it comes to your wedding jewelry. Wear what you love, not what everyone else thinks you should love. (Hope that makes sense …)

Olivepepper:  LOVE your 3-stone halo. What a gorgeous ring, and it looks spectacular set in YG. Beautiful!!

I love all of these!! I’ve also got yellow gold with sapphires and diamonds. Such a great combination in my opinion 😉

jojobeans91:  yep! Seven marquis stones! With 5 rounds on either side. It was the ring my dad gave to my mom. She gave it to me because I’m pregnant.
