I told my then-SO what I wanted – a simple round solitaire with a really thin band. And since that was pretty easy to find, he got me exactly what I wanted! It’s 6 prong, which I prefer but didn’t specify, and rounded on the band (vs knife edge). It’s pretty and traditional and my options for wedding band were endless – I guess it was a bit of a collaboration between us both 🙂

@bunnyharriet: My thoughts exactly! I wouldn’t have minded paying for the platinum but Fiance spoke to a handful of people (jewelers and metals engineers included) that all suggested palladium for his band. Also, if he does develop a metal allergy, we’re still okay since palladium is supposed to hypoallergenic too 🙂
P.S. I completely forgot to mention intially that I absolutely love the quote you are planning to have engraved. It is definitely one that is on my short list as well!

We are going to choose together. I like a certain style and he wants to make sure I love whatever ring I get since I’m going to be the one wearing it.

I picked out my ring with some friends and told him the one I wanted. He was really stressed out about having to choose a ring, and I found an antique that I LOVED.

My only input was that I didn’t want a solitaire. I think Fiance picked the perfect ring!

I chose the ring, and he got to choose when I was going to get it! Win, win!

I love reading all the stories about how your rings were chosen.
I worked for a jewelry store before meeting DH, so I had looked at a LOT of engagement rings. I actually knew exactly what I wanted before I met DH. So when it came time to go ring shopping, we went together. Of course, by the time he was ready to propose, it was very hard to find exactly what I wanted, because it was an older style that the jewelry stores were discontinuing.
First we went to Zales, and two weeks earlier they had had both the 3-carat version and the 2-carat version of the ring I wanted. But when we got there, they only had the 3-carat version, which was on sale for $10,000. DH would have bought it for me if that’s what I really wanted, but he looked like a deer caught in the headlights when the sales lady told him the price. It was gorgeous and I loved it, but I have long slender fingers, and I felt three carats looked a bit gaudy on my finger. I really wanted the 2-carat version. I think DH was very relieved I didn’t want it.
We went to three other jewelry stores before we found my ring. It wasn’t the 2-carat version. It was the 1-carat version, and substantually less expensive. However, the 1-carat version did not have enough distinction between the size of the center stone and the two side stones, so we ordered a larger center stone for it.
Anyway, he was happy he didn’t have to pick it out himself, and he’s VERY proud of my ring.
This isn’t the greatest picture of it, but it’s the only one I can find without my wedding ring with it.

I only told my DH that I wanted a round diamond. He then went onto Blue Nile and designed my ring himself. I had no idea what I would get. I picked out my on w-bands though.

We chose it together. The only thing I told him I wanted was most likely a sapphire center or sapphire side stones, in white gold. We were looking at all diamond ones in a local jewelry shop and discussing swapping out some of the side stones for sapphires. Then the salesman asked if we’d ever considered blue diamonds and brought mine out from the front window. As soon as I had it on my finger we both instantly said this is the one. It’s 1.45tcw in 14k white gold.
